It seems that after a few trucks pass under that contraption, there would be a huge pile of snow there precluding further use.

I'm not an OSHA expert. Why is it OK for a mechanic to use rolling stairs to change a marker light, but it wouldn't be OK to clear snow?

Above a certain height (5'?), they must be tethered. Also, the force needed to clear snow from a roof could easily tip many rolling stairs!

Show me a citation that OSHA prevents the use of portable ladders or stairs to aid in the removal of snow. You don't have to climb on to the trailer to remove it.

I don't work in the trucking industry but workers use ladders every day in snowy and icy conditions within complete comliance of OSHA directives.

Laws come about because of stupidity...semis are the worst...I see them all the time running down the highway with big chunks of snow/ice flying off their trailers...just one more reason for me to hate having to share the roads with them!

FYI - This law was passed in PA partly due to a fatality involving a sheet of ice coming off a semi trailer on a divided highway and striking a driver through the windshield. The kicker is that the car and truck were travelling opposite directions n the divided highway.

So much for your self-righteous rant about safe following distance.

In regards to the questions of how the snow/ice is supposed to be removed from the semi trailer roofs...there is a liquid the airlines use to remove snow/ice from plane surfaces which is simply sprayed on...trucking companies could easily set up drive-thru sprayers for the drivers to run their trucks through prior to their departure...

Snow clearing in a terminal is an easy fix. there are plenty of tools available for that. The problem is the over the road drivers spending the night at a public facility like a truck stop or rest area. There still isn't a solution for them.

These sprayers couldn't be installed at truck stops?

Who pays for them? Are you willing to pay to have them installed at rest areas?

We already pay for all goods shipped via truck, as costs are passed down to the consumer...trucking companies would have to pay for them and pass that cost along as part of the shipping costs...why do I have to figure everything out for you, can't you think on your own?

I would bet that deicer draining to the ground is illegal!

In this state the ratio of residents to rests areas is somewhere around 500,000 to 1. I think you could convince people to vote for spending $5 each as a one time thing for...oh... party noisemakers for underprivelaged students at graduation. So figure on $5/head we could spend $2.5 million per rest area to install that de-icing equipment, then charge a fair price for the use to cover operating expenses.

How expensive is this equipment that we can't afford it?

Where does it go when airliners are sprayed with it?

I can't. Your superior intellect, logic, and reasoning are like a bright light house on a stormy night. I am just a ship lost in a sea of stupidity waiting to be guided to shore.

It has to be recovered, per the EPA.

There's no reason they couldn't do the same thing at truck stops...
