IIRC there was a study done by insurance agencies to figure out what vehicles had the most miles and were driven the longest and the small trucks beat out everything else.

Sure there are a bunch of parts trucks out there that rack up a ton of miles, but I still see a lot of smaller trucks out there on the road.

A HEDO is a good use for your son's application. I'd just change it to what you were using and go another 3000 before going back to 5000 mile OCI's.

+1 on the small trucks running literally forever. In N. MI you see ancient S10s and Rangers all over the place. Too bad the bodies do not hold up as well as the drive trains and motors do.

Check that, I wouldn't worry. Change it out and sleep well.

big +1 I would rather do 11k on HDEO dino than PCMO dino anyday!

Ummm....Its ok.

Just change the oil to whatever brand floats your boat.
I would stick some Pennzoil Platinum in it.

That Ranger is pretty much bullet proof, So many made and so many abused still on the roads today.

Biased? Sure, I own one. Has not given me any trouble yet.

to: astro14: i have never seen anything that showed a synthetic was required. i like oil as thick as will work the year round. that means dino. your guys attempt at hummer, remind of the saying, dont quit your day job.

Sludge or gunk on inside of the oil cap is not always a good indication of what is going on inside the engine. Since the inside of the cap is not exposed to a continuous flow of oil, it will often gunk up with residue. Also, the cap tends to be cooler than the rest of the engine exposed to flowing oil. Therefore, it is more likely to become a condensation area for moisture and volatile oil compounds.

If 8k is the total mileage on the change I wouldnt be conserned about it. Depending on what kind of oil was in the sump of course. If it was SuperTech dino juice Id be concerned.
