Michelin Primacy MXV4

I have a set on my 2003 Civic. I really like them but have not driven in snow. I would probably look at a set of dedicated winter tires if I were you.

I grew up in Vilas County and I'd use Nokian WRs if I lived there today.

ContiExtreme Contacts. Really strong winter performance in an A/S design.

The Primacy's are great tires. If you lived further south, it would be hard to better it. But I think the Conti's better in the white stuff.

I was thinking about The MXV4 or the Goodyear Tripletreds. I don't think they have the ContiExtreme contacts in my size. I need a 215/55/17.

Step it up one catagory to the high performance all season catagory, and the Michelin Pilot Exalto is the top rated tire out of the whole bunch.I have 55,000 miles on mine, and should be able to get 65,000 til the wear bars show- excellent tire in the wet, snow, dry, corners, and precision built requiring little initial balance weight and remain in balance while providing a comfortable quiet ride.Check out their rating at tire rack.....and reasonably priced to boot!

I've driven on Exaltos. Fine tire, but much firmer ride than you'll find in a GT design. A good poor man's Pilot Sport. Not sure I'd drop them on an Altima, though.

If you want an HP or UHP A/S for winter weather, the ContiExtreme Contact has the very best winter grip in my experience. Winter performance appears to be a heavier factor in Wis. It's also a little more comfortable riding than many other HP/UHP tires.

I've not had a chance to drive it in snow yet, but the best GT/HP tires I've had so far are the General Altimax HPs. The TR survey seems to bear that out. Outstanding value, reasonably aggressive performance and incredible ride quality. Worth a close look.

Still, if you're encountering extended snow up there, then you really should look at dedicated winter tires.

I just checked out your stated size. Not much to choose that fits your needs.

Based on what's available, unless you can accommodate plus sizes, I think the Primacy is the best bet.

Second thought if none of the "good" tires are available to you because of size, you could shop for another set of used wheels and go with snow tires. Lots of pure options there, and then your three season tire choice would be larger too.

Just a thought.

MN MXV4 Primacy = excellent & super quiet all season tires.

Again it is an all season tire .... MN eliminated the rain problems inherent to the MXV4+ Energy's with the Primacy.

Snow is snow .... its a [censored] shoot unless you get a dedicated winter tire.

That is where the MN Pilot Alpin, Dunlop WinterSport M3s, Goodyear UltraGrips etc come

Just got some a month ago. Love 'em. Quiet and smooth. They don't ride as well as Harmonys, x-ones or GY Comfortreds. The trade off in handling and traction in the rain was worth it. Sorry I can't answer your main question on snow traction yet.
My only gripe is they follow the rain grooves in the road like no other tire I had before. My suspension, alignment and pressure are fine. I hope this means they are just a sticky tire and will diminish after a few thousand miles.

I ended up getting the Goodyear Triple Treds. The car came with Bridgestone Turanza EL42. The Goodyear's are not as quiet, and steering and cornering response is not as good as the Bridgestone. The Goodyear's have much better ride comfort. Will have to see how they work in the snow.
