Hi, my buddy's Mercury Mountaineer won't start, cranks find, fire and fuel seem fine (40 psi?). I think it's the security system, anyway to test this? I was told a replacement key is near $200, and that's about what a tow bill would be to the dealer, anyone have any suggestions? thanks

I think if the security system has a prob it will start and die immediately. If it won't start at all, I'd look elsewhere.

The security light will flash if the key is not recognized.

Quick test for FoMoCo no starts- Does the Ck engine/service light go out while the engine is cranking? If the light stays on while the engine is turning over you have a faulty crank sensor/circuit.

update: Seems to be something in the security system, the light flashed when trying to start. He's decided to have in hauled to the stealership. Thanks for the input.

well the truck is running, bad key, punisher you hit the nail on the head. Cost was about $400 including tow and replacement of bad switch for the emergency flashers. Thanks again for the help
