It's not a new idea for sure but it is a good video explaining the benefits.

And Crane and other aftermarket CDI ignition box manufacturers. I had a Crane HI-6, which was a superior box to the MSD 6AL that it competed against.

Yep, my 1995 Polaris jet ski 700cc had a solid state ignition with multiple discharge and rev limiter with zero moving parts encased in epoxy.
 
Multi-sparks is nothing new, the difference is the new systems are digital and each plug strike is controlled directly by power transistors where the older systems like MSD relied on actual inductive capacitance or resonance or something like that where the amount of sparks depended on analog circuitry. I guess there's some technological feat in being able to cram 5 sparks into one ignition event, since the previous system could only do 4

Next thing you know they will be sticking a old wooden buzz box in there somewhere. There is no such thing as if it works KISS, if somebody hasn't made a pigs ear of it yet we will do our best to change that.
