Its technically interesting. Practical oil additives to do this can't suffer from being sensitive to the precise structure of the nanoparticles to get superlubricity. See how it might be difficult to keep the nanodiamond balls wrapped in real-world engines:

There is a lot of interesting work going into the nano-additives realm.

I don't have access to the full paper -- but I'd be curious to see what size these particles are and if they are affected by some of the filtration methods utilized in the field....
