Max life now dexos approved

Obviously Valvoline found it worthwhile to pay the fee to use the marketing label "Dexos".

We knew it was good stuff before hand.

Interesting indeed.

Yeah Valvoline said that it already met Dexos, no reblend needed but they would not pay the fine (I mean fee...)
Surprising they changed their minds.

One could reasonably assume that Dexos licensed lubricants constitute a worthwhile portion of potential market share.

"We’re not going after the GM segment."

Once Valvoline signed the deal with Hendrick Motorsports to sponsor the race cars, Hendrick agreed to use Valvoline in all his dealerships. That made Dexos approval a must. Valvoline makes a good product even though a few BITOG members don't care for it. I was never a big fan either but the numerous good UOAs and my own personal experience with MaxLife has changed my mind.

I understand why some oils would not even bother with the "approved" dexos thing, and wonder why some GM vehicle owners lose sleep over the dexos thing, especially when GM kicks out stuff like their TSB 13-00-90-001 which states categorically the one can use any oil that meets GF-5. They don't say it that bluntly, but one does not have to read between the lines to see they are ok with it. From that bulletin, a snippet.....

If you are unable to locate a retailer, then a GF-5 Synthetic grade 0W20 oil that meets the dexos1™ specification, such as Mobil 1™ 0W-20 Advanced Fuel Economy synthetic oil can be used. It meets or exceeds International Lubricant Standardization and Approval Committee (ILSAC) GF-5 requirements.

This is why I have wasted no time worrying about the dexos1 thing.

So if you don't use a less expensive dexos blend, 'it's ok, just use a more expensive synthetic.' That is surely one way to keep customers hooked on dexos.

And sadly it's working.

So are you implying that it is okay for Joe consumer to pour Store-Brand Conventional 5W30 into their 1.4T Chevy Cruze and change it per the OLM?

Are you implying that every oil that's not Dexos approved is equivalent to store brand conventional oil?

Hey - if you meet the qualifications, take the test and prove it!

Now, now, Critic, we know how this really works. GM obviously isn't a car company any longer, and they're just raking in the cash, hand over fist, from getting a nickel off of each bottle of dexos1 oil. In fact, I hear they're getting so rich, they're going to stop making cars until the dexos1 demand drops off from attrition.

If every oil was Dexos approved; that Dexos rating wouldn't be that special no more now would it?

Just like if every guy could bench press 400 lbs, that ability wouldn't be that impressive no more.

And just like if every woman had __________
