Why would you want to use that in a good engine? Use it on hinges and other items that need oiling.

If the bottle was sealed, I would use it regardless of color. Stuff will last almost forever. Only thing that changes is the rating spec for newer vehicles. Manufactures only state a shelf life to just stick a pin in it because they do not want to be hassled processing warranty claims forever and a day regardless if the oil was good or bad.
