Which would you say is better for my F150 4.6l ?

The M1 is only $2 more than my Motorcraft I have been running, so the price doesn't matter to me.
I am running 10w30 M1 EP.

The thing I noticed is the M1 is actually a little shorter than the Motorcraft

Thanks

Go with the MC FL-820s, my suggestion.

The 4.6L loves this filter.
My T-bird with the 4.6L always gets the 820-s, and almost all the people I know who have a 4.6L say it's a great filter for the money.

I've never heard anything (-) about it...only (+)

Since price is of little concern, you may want to consider other factors.

Ford marketing info says the efficiency of their filters are "targeted removal of 80% or more of particles larger than 20 microns from your oil."
Mobil, on the other hand says, "99.2 percent efficiency rating (under SAE J1858 Multi-Pass Efficiency Test." Advantage Mobil, IMO.

The 820S ADBV is the thread-end style. Mobil has the dome-end style. If the filter on your 4.6 installs on an angle, I'd say the advantage rests with Motorcraft on this feature, IMO.

If you are running extended OCI's, I'd say the Mobil 1 filter is a better choice for efficiency and capacity reasons, IMO.

Either way, you cna't go wrong. Both filters are two of the better choices available these days, again...IMHO.

BTW, if your Mobil filter is only $2 more than the Mobil, you may want to shop around for better prices. Most 820S Motorcraft filters retail around here for $3-4 while the Mobil 1 filters go for $10. Uhm, or let me know where you are getting that bargain on Mobil filters!!!

Thanks guys,

But a question for Roger. I thought it was the Bypass Valve , not the ADBV that is in the domed end of the filter. I don't know much about filters though.

I used to get the Motorcraft from Walmart for about $4, but I am having a hard time finding the 820s in stock. At Autozone,The M1 is $9 and the Motorcraft is $7

Wow, $7 for a 820S is alot. I know Walmart usually has the best prices, but in the Chicago area we have Autozones and they are NOT $7 each.
I was just at a Murrays today and picked up an 820S for $3.69. Keep looking around. Someone must have it for a better price.
I use them on my '99 Taurus & '05 Escape.
Good filter.

I'll throw in another vote for the Motorcraft...BTW, the local AutoZones here sell the FL-820S for $3.99...if yours is selling them for $7, there's something wrong...

Yeah, 7 bucks is pretty high for this filter. Maybe he's going to the dealership or some other place. One thing on particle removal. If your looking at extended drains, I definently would not go with M1. Those filters with higher removal capacity will be more than likely to clog up first resulting in the filter running by-pass more often than not.

No, the Autozone had Motorcraft in a slot that was marked $6.99. Maybe they had them in the wrong slot, but when I saw the price I kept walking. I'll go back again and double check to make sure.

So back to the M1 and the spring in the domed end, Is that the ADBV or is that a Bypass valve?

Thanks again

Oops,

I miss-spoke. You are right. I meant to say that its the spring loaded bypass valve on the thread end of the 820S filter that is an advantage, not the ADBV. The ADBV is silicon on both filters.

I buy them for alittle under $3 at Wal Mart. ( FL820S. .... Get it. Fine filter.

since Wal-Mart has started selling Motorcraft again their prices have gone up. What was priced at $2.77 is now $3.28 each. Still a better price than Autozone or Pep Boys($3.49 & $3.79 last time I checked)

Motorcraft is all you need. They are $3.99-$5.99 almost anywhere. Have your AutoZone scan your Motorcraft price. I'll bet the price that's marked is not the computer-scan price.

what bothers me about motorcraft fl820s filters is the flow tube has very few and small holes for a good flow as compared to balswin, fleetguard, and donaldson which have alot of flow area...please educate me..unless some of the oil is actually going pass the bypass valve which is set at 11psi as compared to the above of 7.8psi

Thinking that the oil feed hole in the block or oil pickup tube is 3/8" for most all engines, I don't think you need to worry about the flow in this filter.

i was talking about as the oil enters the filter goes into the media then out via the flow tube you see inside the filter then out the big hole..it just looks restrictive to me..

Update on the FL-820S price at Autozone....

I went back in the store today, and they had the 820S in the wrong slot. They had it in the slot for a FL-782 or 784 which was $6.99.It was on the very bottom shelf, and the way the label was curved, you'd almost have to get on your belly to see the Part#.... The 820S was indeed $3.99. I had already bought a M1, so I'll try that this OCI, and go back to the Motorcraft next time unless I see some dramatic difference that makes me stay with the M1.

Once again, thanks for all of your replies
