I would like to know more about this oil. Its so ambiguous and looks bad on paper but I really think theres more than meets the eye. Anyone have any info on M1 EP thats not on the M1 website?

If u enter m1ep in the search section, data goes back to 2011, lots to read there. Its an old oil now, no one I know has blown up an engine yet. If ur looking to get 500 k out of ur engine, I got friends still running 80k a year with convetional oils, its all in how u treat ur ride.imho

Ambiguous?

Looks bad on paper?

Where are you getting this???

It's a good oil...but you don't say what your intended use is (vehicle, miles, age, driving style, OCI), so no one can really say if it's appropriate for your application...

Looks Bad? Where did you come up with that? I have a friend that is doing 15K with 5-30EP and has 155K on the engine and all is well.

+2, M1 EP is one of the best motor oil that money can buy. I didn't get to over 250,000 miles on my 1MZ-FE by chance.

I mean there is not much to the VOA. Compared to other VOA of Amsoil and PU, M1 EP doesnt seem like it has a big additive package( its addtives are not metallic and dont show up). Im not saying its a bad oil. Im sure its a great oil. I just said on paper it looks lacking, and thats why I want more info on it. Everyone gets all defensive LOL

I understand where you are coming from and yes, on paper, it looks anemic. They have significantly lowered the metallic additives. SA is now .8.

Starting Tbn is around 9-10 for the EP line. I haven't seen enough UOA's yet to know how well it will hold up over 15k mile drain intervals.

Looking at the pour point, and lack of MRV and Noack volatility, I think this oil is primarily Group III+ (Visom) with some unknown amount of PAO/V base oils. Just a guess.

Thank you Buster! Thats exactly what I wanted to know. I am going to try it out on a few of my cars since my brothers Avalon seemed to like it. And its on sale

38.99 for 5.3 quarts with a M1 filter. Cant beat that.

Mobil claims the Tbn retention is better than the previous SM version, so the lower initial Tbn may not be a big deal. fyi.

Keep in mind that an VOA is only going to reveal part of an oil's make-up. Mobil wouldn't make their EP line their longest drain interval oil if it wasn't up to the task. I have used EP in both my vehicles for a yearly OCI---it gets the job done.

Good to know. I just switched to this oil in my 2012 Ford Edge. I am curious to try going by the new IOLM on it and stretch to 10K OCI. I'm guilty of the old 3-5K OCI so it will be a new experience for me!

I don't want to do it on Motorcraft blend although I'm sure it would be ok.

My situation was similar to yours when I switched from conventional to synthetic. I had always done 3500 mile oil changes. When I decided to try synthetic and try a yearly OCI, Mobil EP was the syn I chose because of it being Mobil's longest drain synthetic oil. I am still doing a yearly OCI (about 8,000 miles a year) but am trying Mobil 0W-20 AFE.
