Hang in there Terry, I believe you're appreciated a lot more than it appears sometimes.

"Ahh, I respectfully disagree."

NP, just a concern. Yes, there are lot of different personalities. My Userid says it all and my concerns about Mobil1 or any oil that had a less than stellar comments by a respected forum member.

Just for kicks I entered your user id into Google and did a search.

G-Man II:

"Results 1 - 10 of about 3,990,000 for Oil Anal. (0.16 seconds)"

Fun results:
An ad for Phillips66, I kid you not, including a testimonial from Cox Trucking.
A Frito-Lay paper entitled: 'Frito-Lay Study: Olestra Causes "Anal Oil Leakage"'

Okay. I'm hitting add reply here before I write something stupider and get myself banned.

The only way you would know that is if you did the search yourself...you naughty boy.

I am going to make a biased statement that will surprise no one on this forum who "knows" me. Just switch to GC and don't worry about the M1 debate. And I will look you straight in the CRT or LCD and tell you I am ABSOLUTELY CONVINCED that my bias is well founded and that I am doing you a favor. If I weren't, I wouldn't even bring this up...

Well as much as I'd like to try the GC, finding it is more of a chore than I care to take on.
I've casually looked in three places I frequent here in the Pasadena area, and I can never find any.

pscholte, I think you should switch all your cars to Redline.

I think Red is a nicer color.

So iron is high with basic M1. I can live with that concept (my engine can't, but I can). Does a dose of VSOT mitigate that somewhat? Other adds? Better to move on to another brand? What parts these days are of iron inside a modern mill? Cams, I suppose, what else?

As for you, Mr. Dyson, you are one of the few folks round here who really do have a scientific clue, and most of us are listening. Give us what you can give us, and we'll buy the rest..

In any case, most of us see no conspiracy or conflict.

I've been a fan of the M-1, and am nearly 5000 miles into a 7500 mile OCI on 5W30 M1 "basic", as you put it. At the 7500-mark, I'm doing a UOA to see. I'll be sending it to Dyson for the testing and analysis. If there's high wear metals, I'll kick M1 to the curb before you can say 1-2-3, I have no loyalty to a degraded product. It's only a 1.6 DOHC Hyundai, gently driven and brand new at that (10K by the time you guys get the sample). If M-1 is deficient, the UOA will tell the tale.

We all have our prefs and loyalties, but you can't argue with science and chemistry based on UOA.

That's a nice concept, however I believe it's just a little too thick for some applications, not to mention it's lack of consistent availability. Too bad they don't make a thick 0w20 GC and then stock enough of it in stores so you don't have to go on a tri-state AutoZone oil rack hunt to keep all your vehicles maintained. Hopefully PP will prove it's salt.

A 0w-20 GC would be nice. When you look at all of the Castrol oils, only GC stands out and is worth the price. What do you think Euro-pscholte?

buster,

If I had a car that needed it, I would use the 5W-50 with confidence or a 0W-20 if they had one (only for a car that specified it) as long as the 0W-20 was the same trick chemistry as GC (I would, of course, prefer it came from Europe); otherwise it is off to ELF or Motul I go.

Agree...if it is proving economically feasible (which it apparently is) to import GC why not just use the imports for their whole product line (meeting both overseas and US specs)...Would I ever love to see Castrol Edge sold in the good ol' US of A. I just really believe that their Euro-Asian offerings are the best stuff they make.

pscholte, Motul is a ester based oil like RL with PAO also. The other Castrol oils don't use the same chemistry as GC, which was my point. 5w-50 has too many VII IMO. If the other oils used the same chemistry, Castrol would have a superior line up.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

Note: My use was NOT literal! Guess I overlooked it.

In common usage, the phrases "anally retentive," "anal-retentive" or "anal" are used to describe a certain style of behavior, and it is implied that this is due to a person clenching their anal sphincter, causing retention of feces. This is not necessarily literally the case, nor usually even intended literally.
.......
Today, however, the term is often used of anybody seen as overly worried about small details and unable to adopt a philosophical attitude toward mistakes. This metaphorical usage has become so commonplace that the somewhat graphic literal meaning of the phrase is often overlooked by those using it.

Of course, this is a great way to drum up business. Drop an allegation, they ask folks to pay me for substantiation.

I think I will try that some time.
