Which oil would you choose for a 10k oci (0w20) and why?
Filter will be either Toyota TRD (Glass media, 98% @ 20 micron) or Fram Ultra
I'm looking for an oil that has high Group IV content but the AFE is recommended for my Tacoma
(vehicle for this application in my signature)

AFE meets the requirements to go 10,000 miles in your vehicle, full stop.

EP is more likely to be able to go longer than the 10k manufacturer OCI. If you don't care about warranty, there are a lot of people who run it for 15k. Heck the EP 5w30 took a 2.0L Ecoboost Ford Focus ST over 250,000 miles w 15K OCIs. I'd love to have seen a UOA for that.

Where does it say that AFE recommended for your vehicle?

You can use either one, no problem.

If you feel you must have high group IV, EP is the one.

I just got the truck, talked with one of the tech's and he said the only oils they use at the dealership are AFE and TGMO

That's the recommended OCI per the owners manual

Doesn't Toyota provide free oil changes for the first two years/24,000 miles?

So, it'll be TGMO for the 10,000 miles for a while yet.

No worries the Toyota runs fine on any 0w20 for 10k or one year.
I stuck with AFE once my dealer changes were exhausted.( they used motorcraft 0w20 for oil changes/small town a Ford and Toyota dealer)

I run Mobil EP in my 4Runner V8 and after warranty and extended warranty passed, change the oil 1X a year. No problems. Excellent oil!

Either would work... for the past 40,000 miles I went with M1 EP at 10k with no issues in a new Toyota.

I declined the dealership oil changes and just did them myself.

oh yeah, and just to save him some time... tig1 uses M1 for 10k OCI's too

AFE all the way. Despite EP having the branding of being a longer drain oil in my experience, it was not.

Are you saying AFE 0w20 outperforms EP 0w20 ?

My engines may be the poster child for M1 0-20AFE. I have used it for many years at 10K OCIs in both engines. Here is a pic at 195K of the valve train of the Fusion. There is still no sign of engine wear.

At present that would be 39 years.

I have been using 0w20 M1 EP in my 2006 Focus at 10-12k intervals with good luck. 168000 miles and looks like new through fill hole. Right on the full mark when I change without adding any make up oil between changes. I think all 0w20 are going to be great oils
