Lucas, I knew some fanboys of this stuff when I was in school.

It is all 100% snake oil.

People who buy Lucas will continue to do so regardless of what anyone else says.

Any BG44K or Techron fans here?

There have been some papers published that purport to show that having a polymeric material in fuel helps with combustion efficiency. I believe Lucas is 90% carrier oil and 10% polyisobutylene (thin STP??), so it does contain polymer. My wife's Saturn will get better mileage with this stuff, maybe 2-3 mpg more. In my Frontier, it has no effect whatsoever.

I have done alot of reading on poly isobutylene. It does increase mileage and Lucas does contain a small percentage of it however there is some debate on whether Lucas contains the high molecular weight or low molecular weight polyisobutylene. It seems the lmw stuff doesn't work as well as the hmw weight stuff.
I can say that the Lucas fuel treatment does work in some vehicles when dosed as directed. Overdosing makes mileage worse in my experience.

I like the disclaimer that Lucas puts on the last page of the MSDS:

Original Date: 12-23-04 Updated: 10-10-12

We believe the statements, technical information, and recommendations contained herein are reliable, but they are given without warranty or guarantee of any kind, express or implied, and we assume no responsibility for any loss, damage, or expense, direct or consequential, arising out of their use.

So they build up the product to perform great results and then make sure to add this at the end of the msds.

Why???? If it so good then why the disclaimer? I also note that the disclaimer has been updated last October. I wonder why???

That is a standard legal disclaimer. And it is on a Material Safety Data Sheet, not a PDS or other marketing item. It is a safety document. They don't want to get sued (or want a better chance at winning if they are sued) if someone suffers damages after doing something dumb with the product and goes after Lucas.

And the MSDS (not necessarily the disclaimer) was updated in October. Other companies also periodically update their MSDSs and do it for various reasons (change in formulation, exposure limits, regulations, etc.). The fact that they changed the MSDS is not some sort of [censored] evidence against the product or its manufacturer.

I have found the stuff to be of some benefit in motorcycle fuel during storage, and perhaps to help the function of so called "constant velocity" carb pistons. What it might do for a FI engine besides the possibility of lubrication of the fuel pump is uncertain.

I get it that you only hang in the oil and filter section and had never visited this fuel section of BITOG.

I went with a friend to Walmart so he could buy some Lucas UCL, and the cashier had to check his ID upon purchase. We asked her why they had to check his ID, and she said it was because kids buy that stuff as an ingredient to cook drugs. If this is true, I'd have a disclaimer on my product too!!!
