I live on the MS Gulf Coast. Twice a yr we have "love bugs". They hatch swarm mate die. They are so bitter with acid even the birds will not eat them. Auto grill and glass can become almost totally covered with very hard black spots (can eat thru gel-coat). Any suggestion for removing and preventing their sticking next season. Thanks. Dan

Peroxide works wonders for bug removal.

Since an alkaline neutralizes an acid, any good all purpose cleaner or dedicated bug juice remover will help with cleaning off the bug residue. I use a bug sponge or wool wash mitt and lots of soap and water.

Follow that up with a coat of wax or paint sealant, and touch up with spray wax between washings. A clear bra is ideal for long term protection but they can be expensive.

I just throw a "Love Bug Screen" across the front of the car. Keeps the Love Bugs out of the radiator, and whatever gets through the screen to the paint is much easier to get off.

May and September. (although this past September was not very bad for them)

I have also used DG Bug and Tar Remover. It seems to work ok but not a miracle product. I have heard people taking towel, soaking in very warm water, and draping over teh front to loosen then up.

^ Pretty mild since it says on the bottle it won't strip wax/sealant.

This stuff will strip wax/sealant and take off bugs, tar, grime etc:

Also read good things about Poorboys Bug Squash from professional detailers.

Put Rejex on the front of the car and you will be able to wash most of them off with the hose. Rejex is made by Corrosion X and is used on aircraft. Works great on cars, boats, windshields, etc instead of wax.

I agree 100%. It goes with me when I'm on the road and works like no other.

Once you get them off try spraying Pam on the front to prevent them from sticking as well next time. I heard that from an over the road trucker. Not sure how long it will stay on though.

Any Bug and Tar Remover will work...A few years back the Love Bugs were really bad from Orlando to Broward County...Women were screaming as the Love Bugs went down their clothes and got into their car as soon as they opened the car door.

Try Dri Wash n Guard's Ultra-Ion cleaner and polisher. If periodic applications are used on the paint and glass, it makes subsequent cleaning and removal of the bug [censored] pretty easy.

The best trick I've found is a Bounce Dryer Sheet. Just wet it, rub lightly, and bugs wipe off. No, it won't scratch your paint as it gets soft when wet. Give it a try, you'll be surprised how well it works.
