Cruising the Ranger down the highway and I could feel the power cut out, as if I had let up on the throttle, twice in the space of about 5 or 6 seconds. Drove another 12 miles and then 15 more this am with no further problems. Yesterday I was down to a quarter tank so had a few gallons left (took 12.3 to fill). After filling up I added dry gas in case it is some water that got in the line because the level was low? Anyway, we'll see if it happens again. Could be an ignition module too. Maybe carry a spare.

You are using 10% ethanol gas. A tiny bit of extra alcohol won't help dry anything, or do any good whatsoever.

Could this be a lockup converter thing?
Any codes? [they may not be shown, but hidden]
This could be a ground problem to the computer, or any number of systems. Really, I have no information to go on.

So all gasoline is now 10% ethanol? I wasn't sure, probably says on the pump though. Ah well, might as well be rid of the dry gas.

No lockup converter. Is manual transmission. Glad it didn't die completely. But I wonder, with an automatic would it have died and had to be recranked because in the manual the engine still is turning when the spark or fuel (whichever was the problem) comes back.

I think in most auto's at highway speed, the engine will still be turning over (slower) as long as it is left in gear and the pump is running.

Gotta start somewhere...
Ensure your power and ground cables are clean and shiny where they seat. There may be little extra grounds that need attention.
Loose connection to the coil?
Fuel pump relay?
MAF sensor connection?
TPS?
