Looking for a File Set

I think it kind of depends on use. The biggest thing that I've had forced myself to do is keep the files that I use for general purpose in the files that I use for metal separate. Otherwise inevitably really end up wrecking all of my files as I try them on metal.

This is my general set:
REXBETI 16Pcs Premium Grade T12... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MVW7CLM?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I also have a couple pferd brand files that I only use on soft metal and try to keep in better condition.

I have a fair number I have accumulated over the years, and the only 3 I use are a large bastard file, a small round file I think is technically a chainsaw file, and a small triangle saw file (also don't use it for a saw). There in the second from the top drawer. I presume the rest are in the bottom somwhere.

I would just go buy those 3 if I had to start over.

I haven't bought a file in ~10 years but I always used Nicholson. It wouldn't surprise me if quality has tanked, but I don't know.

Old machinists hate the rubber handles but I like 'em

Much like @Trav with Milwaukee, the only Pferd product I ever owned was a wire cup brush for an angle grinder. It was so poorly balanced you almost couldn't hold the grinder -- and yes, it's VERY possible to have a wire cup brush that does NOT behave this way.

Pferd basically told me I was stupid, but I returned on my LWS account on principle alone. Hopefully it was RTV'd but I don't know.

So, Pferd can suck it. I won't buy their stuff any longer.

Also Fireball built an insane setup to test the myth (<-----spoiler) that backdragging dulls a file.

He also likes Pferd.
