Limo crash in upstate NY

Poorly maintained limo and extremely heavy gross weight, plus driver unfamiliar with road probably caused this accident.

I'm not surprised a few passengers commented on the poor condition of their limo to other people.

Was it light or dark outside when this accident happened?

Could be as simple as a brake failure or driver issue. I don't think license class would have changed this. The inspection failure a month ago has no detail.

This is a horrible accident but I hate the way the Press keeps reporting and leading people to believe it was ....

This accident;

1. did not happen because of the poor condition of the limo
2. did not happen because it failed inspection
3. did not happen because of brake failure

This accident happened because for some reason, the driver did not attempt to stop the vehicle before the intersection.

Ill eat my words if any of the three prove any different.

alarmguy,

You forgot one possibility.
Maybe driver was upset and intentionally did this ?

Maybe the passengers complained about ratty condition of limo and there was an argument between the driver and passengers ?

I'm just saying....

I'd say it would be a stretch for the driver to intentionally kill himself and all the passengers over an argument concerning the condition of the limo.

Distraction or medical problem are far more likely especially if no attempt was made to stop the vehicle.

They're reporting what limited information is available, a cause for the accident has not been found.

Yes, though rarely. Also, if the front brakes fail, the rears provide limited stopping power...especially in a probably-overloaded vehicle.

Aren't they usually split diagonally so that's one front and one rear instead of just fronts and rears? Or is that vehicle so old that it was just split front and rear?

Also even with brake failure, you could probably still turn although at 50 or 60, which would be way too fast when coming to a stop sign, would probably have rolled over.
