I know corona means crown in Spanish, but that's a cruel joke on tourists, just like the beer is.

Corona is an Aztec word that means Coors.

Corona tastes very well, but it's a real head buster.

the fresher the better. 2 best beers Ive ever had were from brew pubs. nothing worse than and old micro brew. Bud in cans is great on a summer afternoon. Dont understand Corona in clear bottles.

I always believe the uv/sunlight would ruin it. I don't understand clear bottle packaging either.

Sounds good - but this is the pure marketing part. He developed his yeast and technique in what is now German Bavaria - I cannot say what really drove him to Pilsen - perhaps pure money/reward

As history tells us, the Bavarian was brought in to show the Bohemians how to brew better beer. And trust me, Bavaria was already Bavaria at that time.

Anyway, I bought an Urquell yesterday. I didn't like it. Mostly because I like dark, malty beer, but als because that weak sauce left some bitter aftertaste.

Well I would say it is no longer the great beer it used to be since they changed from wooden lagering vessels to stainless in the early to mid 90's and the green bottles do the brew no favors. But it's still the first original golden pilsner. If you still disagree well then tell me what beer you think it was.

From Matt, Ed and Brebett: Which do you think is better, Pilsner Urquell (which we know you already endorse) or Whithead?

MJ: I do not make advertising endorsements for any beer, but I have certainly written a lot about Pilsner Urquell. It is the original Pilsner lager and a fine beer, though less characterful of late. I am puzzled by your question concerning Whithead. Is this a mis-typing of Whitbread, a British brewing company that sometimes sends a Pale Ale to the U.S.? Or is it a translation of the Flemish Wittekop, the name of a Belgian-style wheat beer? In either case, the styles would be too different to compare.

This is from the ask Michael section.

No heartburn from Natural Ice. It's the new ultra-cheap beer that doesn't taste bad at all. I'd never thought I'd be saying that about any Budweiser product.

Chimay - We know Micheal Jackson's view. I think he is very close to the truth. We can agree this is NOT the first lager beer. What is in doubt - is this the first lager lighter in color than mid-amber? Maybe - maybe not.

Noonan (Brewing Lager Beers) didn't address the question in detail (that I could tell right away). Fine book none the less. I obviously have found some of my books......I'll dig tonight.

What is truly sad: I threw all my old Zymurgy magazines away before we moved - I know at least one issue addressed this specific issue.

Had a Red Hook cask conditioned ESB. Nice.

Well, I just don't like any light beer, so I can't complain about the Urquell. I never said it wasn't the first golden Pilsner, I simply said that type beer had been brewed in Bavaria before. Of course it wan't Pilsner then, it was just beer.

The only bad beer I've had in Mexico was Liston Azul. Sweet tasting swill.

I prefer heavier beers. Negra Modelo, a dark ale and Bohemia a lighter beer but still lots of flavor.

No matter how high quality a beer may be, it's nearly impossible to beat a beer that is FREE and COLD.

My Dad kept an old refrigerator in the garage filled with 16 oz returnable bottle Horlachers brewed by a company of the same name in Allentown, PA. His sales rep territory allowed him to pick up two cases each week for something like $3.75 per case in the Philly area.

I'll never forget rolling out of the house with my best bud, our arms lugging all the bottles we could while my Dad had one of the fenders off the '63 VW which I had done a little restructuring to the previous evening. He was banging away using the driveway as an anvil.

My bud goes, "Hey there Mr. ******, looking good. You need to get that back together so J***** can bang it up again tonight".

My Dad was a real stickler to have all the returnable bottles back.

I picked up a six-pack of Celis White, on my way back from the ocean Friday and it sure is refreashing. I met Pieter Celis in Brussels 1999 maker of Hoegaarden pronounced(who garden) I know he corrected me. We were greeted with his newest brew "Grotten Bier" it is a cave aged brew.

Heh Heh, BTDT so many times If you ground off the spot welds holding the head light buckets in, you could bang out the fenders pretty good.

I prefer beer/pilsner that is made according to German Purity Law (Reinheitsgebot) using water, hops, malt and yeast only.

I buy which ever micro brew that is on sale when I go in the store. If I have never tried it, I'm more likely to buy it.

I always try to get the local micro brew when I'm traveling and have rarely been dissapointed and frequently rewarded with some outstanding beer.

So little time, so many micro-brewers.
