Hello i need to buy a new set of tires, and really enjoy researching new purchases to get a good value so lets start a thread about your tire purchases/researched tires your interested in purchasing/whats you have had. Looking for a highway tread type tire for a fullsize suv.

Tires owned in past:firestone destination at, some bf goodrich tires, and some old made by cooper offroad mud tread tire that rode like a log wagon but wore like steel.

never owned: never owned one set of goodyear tires(surprisingly neither have my friends..weird)

want to try someday: bf goodrich long trail ta tour, firestone destination le, and any set of yokohama...always wanted to try yokohamas, and michelin at/2's

TireRack.com has lots of real-world testing and owner input. Decent pricing. A wealth of information, rather than "I heard one guy got brand X tires and hated them for Y reason."

All I can add is I would not buy Firestone tires. Every Firestone tire I have bought since 1980 has been a POS. I have not bought any in 10 years, and likey never will.

Bridgestone, Yokohama, Michelin, and BFG are all excellent

I'm running the Yokohama H/T's on the wifes Suburban. Absolutely love them.

Mind you, I could have gotten any tire I wanted at cost as a retailer... Since I am a retailer. I had choices from 4 different distributors, hence I had a LOT of options. Still, it came down to the Yokohamas. I know the Michelins are a very excellent tire also, and you can't go wrong with them.

Since you want a highway tread, I would also suggest...

The Bridgestone Alanza H/L
The Goodyear Wrangler SR-A
Mastercraft Courser HTR
Toyo Open Country H/T
General HTS Grabber
Uniroyal Cross Country Laredo

and just for kicks...

Dunlop Grandtrek AT20

Agree on Kumhos. I am very pleased with the Z rated Kumhos I put on my Mustang. Also, agree on Firestone. I have owned one set of Firestones and it was a bad experience, both the tires and the Firestone store. Since then I only purchase from Discount Tire.

I'm running a set of BFG Long trail tours on my F150 and am very happy with them. They replaced a set of BFG long trail's that had about 50k on 'em and would have gone another 10K or so. For the price, I just had to go with them. I went to Discount Tire and to get me to purchase the replacement certificates the salesman knocked the tire price down to $97 on 245/75/16's! Plus I got an additional rebate of $60. Total after rebate? $492 with lifetime replacement certificates. YMMV

The LTX M/S have a history of being long lasting tires with a good history. They have a new model called LTX M/S 2. It is rated at 70,000 miles and traction A Temp A 720 Rating. If it is similar to the older tire it should be good. These are not the cheapest tire but may be the most cost effective in long term ownership. I have never had a problem with the former model good treadwear, no balance issues, and no flats. Check out the reviews.

Every brand makes good models and bad ones.

My GoodYear Eagle Response Edge are the best I ever used, but I wouldn't run some of their models for free. Same for Micheline, et al.

My kelly nav.golds are doing pretty good, owned them for 6 mo. with no significant wear noted.

I also like my Firestone Firehawks on my Camaro, very smooth ride, quiet. Good wet/dry traction.

I use to work at a tire shop and have always been impressed by uniroyal and bridgestones tread life/ sidewall strength.

I've found michelins to be an average tire with a high price, good tires, but overpriced IMO;not yours.

But as they say YMMV.

i have had good service with michelin cross terrains. however this time i bought General grabber hts. We will see how they last, so far i like the ride and wet weather handling.

Discount Tire, free shipping and look at their Hankook tires.I had a 2003 Explorer that had BF Goodrich tires factory installed tires, they had a fairly aggressive tread and were noisy,i put the Hankook on that had a more highway type tread and was really pleased by the ride and noise reduction. They were in the 85.00 range two years ago.I had my son install them at work which is a Ford dealership.

I like Goodyear Tires, they always gave me good mileage and no problems.

I just bought a set of bf goodrich long trail ta tour tires for my Murano, they gave good reviews (tirerack.com) and have been good so far. I have run bf goodrich tires in the past and had no problems.

I would NOT run Firestones, they have had 2 MAJOR recalls.

I just bought a set of Continental Extreme Contact DWS for my wifes X3. Nice tire got a good rating on review plus they did a roadtest and compared it to a few other tires and did well. I have had 2 sets of Kuhmo's and was please with them. I was looking for a little better traction in the snow and the DWS seem to fit that need
