When compare with Amsoil ASL 5w30, not only does it flow faster at -30'c, it also has a higher flash point compare to ASL and for 1/2 price of ASL, i think this oil is definably a winner.
Amsoil ASL 5w30
CCS Viscosity, cP @ (°C) (ASTM D-5293)- 4911 (-30)
Flash Point °C (°F) (ASTM D-92) - 442'F

Barely a measurable difference in those two areas. While Amsoil's ASL has the better base-stocks for extended drains and insane over-dosing on additives. Interesting note, but doesn't really tell the whole story. Hardly on par with ASL, IMO...but a great bargain price for a quality product, yes.
If Amsoil has a better base stock, why are their cold flow and flash point lower than Kendall? I seriously doubt Amsoil ASL has a measurable wear performance differences compare to Kendall.
For 1/2 the price of ASL, Kendall is definably a winner in my book.
if i can find it here.
Someone more experience can answer the particulars, but there are several ways to get better numbers in those areas. TBN retention and starting number win with the ASL, so at the very least it's a better extended drain candidate. Base-stock quality may/may not make 'the' difference in comparing these two oils in the areas you quoted.
It's similar to the whole VI with little/no VII or a nice VI loaded with VII, somewhat of a compromise for a balanced oil formulation; at least for extended drain purposes.
Most on here that prefer working the OCI out, don't want an oil that looks good on paper, but really isn't a superior product in application because of areas like that.
I'm too inexperienced and new myself to give any word on these two products, aside from the clear-cut better base stock in the Amsoil product. Most, I'd imagine, would agree Amsoil has the better base. Kendall is a good oil on the other hand, and may have better 'quoted' specs in those two areas. The thing is though it's not much different to call those areas a wash and some other critical remaining 'difference makers' remaining have Amsoil winning out: Add pack, TBN, the like...
In the context if these two oils anyway.
