Less than 200 miles between oil changes…

…not my screw up, but the dealership. You would think that the advisor would check their records. Took it down for some warranty work and when I picked it up, he told me that the oil had been changed. No charge. Would have been interesting if they had put dino and not synthetic, which I had originally.

Dealers make enough off us so this screw up really didn’t cost them anything.

Do you know for sure they changed it? Maybe by using a different filter than you had on it? Or was the service writer stroking you making you think you got something for nothing?

I had a dealership replace the almost new synthetic gear oil with conventional while my 2000 Solara SE (V6 5MT) was in for some other reason.

I made them drain it and put synthetic back.

They had originally put the synthetic gear oil in too.

The advisor that I normally use is off with terminal cancer. Great guy. Was always on the ball. Wouldn’t have let something like this slip thru. You could also trust him.

Dealership is in town which, when you’re under warranty, makes things easier. A few years ago I had them do an alignment. I came back about 5000 miles later and the advisor (Different one) was telling me I needed an alignment job. I looked at him and ask if they guarantee their alignment jobs. The answer was for 6000 miles. I then told him that if he had checked my service record at his dealership, he would have seen that I just had one done. Of course he was trying to up sale me, but I got a “free” alignment due to his comment that I needed one. Same dealer told me that I needed to change my cabin filter, which I had done myself 2000 miles earlier. I had the service advisor come out when I took out my fairly clean filter and said “Do I really need to replace this?” He said he was just telling me what his mechanic told him.

Did you change the oil prior or the dealer? I'd be pretty upset if I put in oil I went out and bought and a filter, then they use their bulk whatever. And who knows if they even used synthetic this time.

I had taken the new Honda Pilot at 4008 miles for its first oil change. Also had them look at the fan and molding. Got the notice at the end of last week that the parts had arrived so brought it in today.

Oh ok, I'd be happy with a free dealer change in that situation since it was dealer bulk before.

I took my mom's Jeep Patriot into the dealer for warranty work and it was a little past due in an oil change. They peeled off the previous quick lube sticker from ages ago and put in a new one saying it needs maintenance in 5,000 miles, but they didn't change the oil. I thought that was interesting.
