I got my Valvoline coupon, got 5 qts of 5w30, motorcraft filter, and a gallon of the orange Rainx washer fluid for $19....feeling pretty good about myself haha

You can't be serious.
How exactly do you know you dry start every morning. I assume you've got pressure gauges mounted before and after the filter.
And a dry start is the fault of the filter, not the oil.
10w-30 is adequate for temps as low as 20-30 degrees farenheight. So I'm calling absurd on the whole comment.
Drive the oil til at least 10000 miles or the 15000 miles Mobil says and save those pennies you say are so tight.
Absolutely the funniest thing I've read in weeks.
This thread and post ranks up there with 84zmyfavourites post where he can feel his engine wearing with some oils.
If you're driving everyday you're not getting a dry start. A dry start is weeks of no starting. There is a film of oil on everything at start up.
Hilarious.
Didn't mean to offend you Clevy, go easy on me, I'm still learning, and from all of your posts I've read, I really respect your opinion. What I meant by that comment...was it sounds the same as the first start up after and oil change when there is no oil in the filter. Should I be worried about the filter then? I know Napa platinums are supposed to be great..but maybe i got a bad one?
napa filters are very good...however when dealing with anything ford a motorcraft filter is the best option IMO. Every ford i've owned always sounded best on a motorcraft filter. plus they are less than $4 at walmart. you can't beat them!

It's certainly possible. With respect to the recommendation to use a Motorcraft on a Ford, there's nothing wrong with that idea. However, I've never had problems with a Wix (NAPA Gold) on a Ford. Granted, I haven't tried a Platinum yet. From what I understand, it's hard to beat the price of a MC in the States.
You heard correct Garak, $3.99 almost anywhere you go...but I already have one for my next oil change with VWB....this is my 3rd wix in a row with no problems before though
Stuff happens, I guess. Our Motorcrafts are priced oddly up here. For the F-150, I get the Wix 51515 for $4.99, so it's hard to pass that up, but I do regularly get the MC. That's closer to $7 or so, but it's still not ridiculous by our standards.
Yep, it's a good price. The last time I could get an OEM filter at a sensible price was when WM Canada used to have AC Delcos for around $3 a piece. As for Wix, it tends to be easy to find here. I don't know how NAPA up here even sells any, since their prices on the Golds are a little over the top.
I have found that orschelins farm and home has tropartic (same as motorcraft) on sale every other week for $1.99/qt.
rockauto.com has quality filters for as little as $3.00. buying one you have to pay for shipping, it may not be worth it but if you buy multiple, the shipping doesn't really increase. the average cost is much lower than retail. ive got my oil changes down to about $14 when I do it myself.
