Anyone have any experience with the Lubrication Engineers EHP transmission fluid. I am considering it for my F-150 (Mercon V) and a '95 Mercury Sable AX4S transmission (Mercon).

Any experiences with it? Opinions?

No - you have to contact a local distributor ("lubrication consultant"). I have one about 15 miles away that will sell me a 5 gal pail for $132 = $6.60/qt. Not too bad if it is truly a superior product to any of the off-the-shelf universal transmission fluids.

Plus, I would like to try their gear lube and I can get in on a case order with a few other people. I was going to start using Schaeffer 204 All-Trans in my truck, but the LE is significately cheaper. (204 is going to cost me $10/qt.)

I think Johnny may be able to help you with an opinion on the LE products you are interested in. A PM might be the best way for him to discuss it with you.

I use LE 8130 engine oil and LE 1605 gear oil and think they are top notch lubricants. But I don't think I would be using them if I lived in Minnesota.

I do use Schaeffer's 204. The last time I bought it from Salesrep (site sponsor for $75/case. You might check with him for current pricing. He was significantly cheaper than my local distributor at $99/case.

Good luck.

INDYMAC - Why would you not be using these products if you lived in Minnesota? I was considering the 703 gear oil for my front diff. (75w-90)

I will send Salesrep a message to see what his prices are with shipping - sound like he will be cheaper than the local NAPA store.

What part of MN are you in? My LE rep lives in Eau Claire, WI and sells in any size container you want. That transmission fluid works very well in a Mercon/Mercon V application. If you want the reps phone number, send me a PM.

I wrote to my local LE distributor and asked him about this ATF fluid, below is his reply. Sounds like this stuff is a blend rather than a full syn.

Thanks for your inquiry. The 1150 Trans-All EHP fluid is a blend of synthetic and paraffinic base oils, plus several proprietary additives. A 5-gallon container is $131.05 (shipping included).

LE 8130 is a 10w30 engine oil. I think I would use the 8530 if I lived up there in the Arctic.

LE1605 is a SAE110 gear oil with a -11F pour point. I would use AMSOIL SVT 75W-110 if I lived up there too.

The 8130 and 1605 are perfect for Texas though.

With the specs listed (viscosity index 200), I doubt that you have to worry about there being much wrong with the base oils used. As a rule, LE seems to use paraffinic base oils for their additive packages. Better solvency maybe? I don't know for sure though.

I understand - you were referring to the viscosity as the reason for not running these products. I thought you were saying to no run LE products in the arctic north.

Also, I noticed you said you would run Amsoil SVT 75w-100 rather than a LE gear lube up here. What is the reasoning for this. I am planning on ordering up some L.E. 703 with the trans fluid.

The 703 will work fine in MN. It is a good multi-vis gear oil. It does not have the same pour point as the Amsoil synthetic gear, but I would have no problem using it here is WI and as you know, we get as cold as you. When I had my Jeep, I used the 703 in both diffs and never had any problems.

I agree with Johnny. The 703 will work fine. The only reason that I would choose AMS 75W-110 is for the 110 benefit in my applications. AMS and LE are the only companies that offer a 110 option to my knowledge.

I wanted to know more, so I wrote back to the local rep and asked him about the 8530 oil, as well as what group of base oils this stuff was from, below is his reply....

The 8530 would be a great choice for that application. We have customers using it in fleet operations in Eastern WA who are seeing drain intervals in that range and better, though we don't recommend going beyond 8K miles. A case of 24 quarts is $174 (shipping included).

The 1150 and 8530 products are from PAOs.
