I have a 2007 Camry with the 2.4l engine. It calls for a Fram 4386 oil filter or equivalent. This is a very small filter that looks like it belongs on a lawnmower instead of a car. Does anyone know of a longer higher capacity filter that will fit the 2.4l engine?

Thanks

I'd run what Toyota asks for until you get 5 years or 60k miles on it.

I'd hate for you to have a problem (any problem) and it need to be towed to the Dealership and they find a non approved oil filter on. It will be noted and *if* you have any engine problems, you can expect some dancing.

The factory size works just fine.

Take care, Bill

+1 on what Bill in Utah said. The stock Toyota filter on my Tacoma is small, but about the same size as the OEM filter that my 4 cyl accord had. Honda's logic on the smaller filter is that oil pressure comes up faster and is more consistent. I'm guessing a smaller filter with less metal also cost's them less. :2cents:

The small Fram probably covers your Camry and the smaller-filtered Corolla (both have same threads).

The OEM Toyota filter is considerably larger than the Fram. Have you checked those out? Not too expensive, usually 4 for the price of 3 at most dealers.

I'm not aware of one to suit your application. My wife's V6 '99 Camry uses the oversized version of her filter. Normal is ST3614 but she uses the ST3600 (supertech numbers used for reference only). The reason I do it on this engine is it's the sludgemonster 1MZ-FE. FWIW, I've checked every spec. for both filters and the only differences are length and burst pressure. The burst pressure on the longer one is greater.

If I were in your position, I'd run an oversized filter if one exists that meets spec. and when I take it in for service throw on the cheapest ValuCraft POS I could find in the correct size.

Here's all of the smaller gasket sized 3/4-16 filters available from Donaldson in your thread. There are literally tons of near gasket sized filters (typical 2.8 OD/2.4 ID) ..but also quite a few in the 2.4X OD/2.1X ID). I included anything that spec'd "Toyota" whether it showed the gasket size or not. Some are not exact ..but worth looking at

Just put them into the WIX site for more easily integrated view.

Keep in mind that in case the filter fails, the filter maker is only liable for the damage to the engine if you use the filter listed for that engine.

In any case, why worry about an oversized filter? It's not the size of the can that counts nor the overall area of the filter media, but the number of holes of the right size in the filter media. Modern filter media is far superior to what was available years ago when filters were usually much bigger.

Hey, man ..did you settle for the standard memory on your computer? Didn't you hanker for the 500meg upgrade? Even when you get "state of the art" ..it's not "good enough", is it?

and BTW: the so-called sludgemonster is never an issue so long as you keep a very conservative OCI and PCI servicing intervals.

Why? I've been shopping for a sludgemonster for my wifey lately and so far, none of the cars I've came across in the used market (vehicle engine and transmission checked against vin) came with a sludge issue here up north. Coincidence? Maybe. seriously blown up/exaggerated problem? you bet!

Just use 6607 and be happy. Afterall: why loose sleep on something that is statistically-insignificant to begin with?
