I was wondering what labor rates people are paying where you live?
Here on the east coast of Canada, the rates don't vary much from the dealers to indy shops..$59. per hr. Around $54 U.S.

$85 plus here. I'm sure it tops $100 at the dealer$hips.

My garage = $0/hr - I don't pay myself enough

Honda stealerships here typically 100~110CAD/hr. M-B about 135CAD/hr, ditto with VW. GeeAm and some Ford shops are around 85~100CAD/hr. Suzuki is 90CAD/hr.

My guy is $56/hr. Works out of a bay in his father's parts store. Some cringe at the rough looking shop, but I see a business model with low overhead. Save the commission-driven sales writer and waiting room coffee and give me an affordable mechanic who fixes only what needs fixed and does so at an fair rate.

Sorry. You'll raise my ire everytime with this one!

My last timing belt job, I took my car to my old hometown about an hour away, to a mechanic I trust and he charged 55-65/hr last I remember.

So it looks like there can be as much as a $50.00+ per hr. difference so far.
I wonder why for instance the closest Toyota dealer to me is $59. per & Quest stated above "Honda stealerships here typically 100~110CAD/hr. M-B about 135CAD/hr, ditto with VW. GeeAm and some Ford shops are around 85~100CAD/hr. Suzuki is 90CAD/hr."

Same country so why the huge difference?

I would have thought for instance that a Toyota dealership in Ontario would charge the same as Toyota delership in Nova Scotia. You would think say in a place like Toronto where they sell a lot more units than a province like Nova Scotia or PEI. Something isn't adding up.

Here in Huntsville, AL the Honda dealer is $85/hr last I checked. A local shop I have used here before is $60/hr. Out in the rural area where I use to live, a mechanic worked out of his house shop & charged $25/hr. He is very honest and respectable, but can't fix everything b/c he doesn't have a whole lot of equipment. He says he doesn't need to make much money b/c he doesn't spend much money. Simple man, good man.

Local DC dealer is 92.50/hr last time I bought parts. Up to date honest shop that I sometimes use is about $60/hour. My pal engine builder one man show is somewhere around $30/hour for anything except pipe bending, rears and manual trans rebuilds, fabrication (roll bars, mounts, cross members, etc.) and engine building. He's the most sought after wrench for the local street rod crowd in the area. He starts @ 11-11:30 a.m. takes 1:00-2:00 off for lunch ..and works until 6:00 p.m. ..and he takes off Fridays. Cash/check only.

I just brought my car in for warranty service a few days ago, and noticed that the labor rate was $95/hour here in New York. As I recall, it was only about $10/hour less in Tulsa, at the dealership where I bought the car. This is a Chevrolet/Pontiac/Buick/Cadillac dealer, up here in NY. I'm sure the import brands have even higher rates.

Most GM, Honda, Toyota, etc dealerships around here are $100/hr.

Some of the luxury dealerships are $125+/hr. I think one user on this forum said the Acura dealer he works at charges $140/hr.

Not sure about independents as I really don't use them, but I believe even Pep Boys around here charges $95/hr.
