Kreen questions

I am in the middle of doing another Honda Odyssey 3.5 VTEC with VSA light and CEL ON.105K 7.5K OCI
This is another sludge and varnish job.I cleaned the screen in the VTEC unit and valve then reassembled it and added 16oz Kreen for 1K.
The sludge was liquefied, with no chunks when i drained it.
A liquid black thick soup was on the bottom of the drain pan,i will take pic when i get back to this car later in the week when this snow storm eases up.

The plan now is to remove the valve and filter mounting plate, check for sludge in the passage and install new screen and gaskets then run Kreen 3x over a 3K OCI.

VSA and CEL is now OFF.
These engines seem to be problematic with 7500 plus OCI,i see a lot that have 4-5K OCI that are clean inside and problem free.
The PCV on both these was clear and had been changed.

We plan to run Mobil 1 ESP 5w30 after the cleaning,it seems to work very well in these and the Nissan VQ engines for 7500 OCI.

its good stuff

(i still dont know what alot of the abbreviations mean lol. like i saw one that looked like aflac.and what is IIRC? ur not the only one!)

IIRC = If I remember correctly

"awesome! what oil are you goin to use?"

I was going to just run dino. Should I be running something better?

idk, pyb should be good. im using PU for maximum cleaning, but i dont have sludge just varnish.

trav has more experience than i do...

Use a Dino oil with Kreen, the cleaning is from Kreen, not the oil. Also the OCI with any cleaning product like MMO or Kreen tends to be shorter, no point in wasting a synthetic oil. HTH

What results did you get? Decreased consumption?

Would using Kreen for the last 1K miles of an OCI be beneficial to clean up some minor varnish? Not sure if I want to use it at a start of an OCI...

I have a slight knock at only idle on a Acura MDX V6 and have been told that it may be carbon build up in the cylinder head. I somewhat doubt this but may try a few tanks with BG 44K. I still think it could be something else engine related(valves are fine) and maybe this Kreen could help. Also had 4-5K OCI's since new but maybe I have some sludge someplace causing this knock. These engine are known to be well built and quiet and even the Acura dealer is stumped(they think possible carbon in the head)...

go for it! you only use 1/2 a qt so do two ocis at the end if you like. it will clean well in 1k. i would also do a couple tanks with techron or regane to clean up the top end

The carbon deposits in the "head" would be related to the valves. Kreen added to the oil is not going to clean that up. You'd need to add something like Seafoam, BG44, GM TEC, or water via a vacuum line to clean that up. Most likely if you have heavy carbon deposits in the combustion chamber you might have pinging going up hill or when the engine is under load. Is this knocking noise at idle low or high in the engine?

The knocking noise is at idle which is around 700 rpm's. When you get above 1K rpm's it goes away. It is very hard to exactly locate where it is coming from but sounds like the #6 cylinder and low/mid engine.

I am planning on using BG 44K 3 times in the fuel to see if the knock subsides. If not, I then will try the Kreen in the oil. Not sure if I want to try both products at the same time, because I would like to see if one of these will fix the issue.

When my idle rests to 550 RPM or so, on the Civic, I get a lug/lug/lug type of effect, a low clicking that sounds at the rate of someone tapping their fingers on a desk nervously.

It goes away when the idle blips up to 700 or so. I think it may be the alternator or when the fan kicks on/off due to cooling the engine.

Wish that was my problem.LOL. Except for the knock at idle, the engine is very smooth.

Ha, I guess I shouldn't complain if it's valve tapping on a car with 245k miles. Though, I did just have the valves adjusted. This car's manual says valve lash adjustment every 15k miles...in other words once a year.
