Does any body else think its absurd that the sticker price of a cadenza is over $35k, especially when there's great cars like the Mazda 6, Camry, accord, fusion, that can be hand for a much lesser price?

And im set in my ways, I can't imagine kia competing with brands such as Lexus, BMW, Mercedes, etc…

That's Impala LTZ territory. Not regular Impala...heavily loaded LTZ.

$5000 more than a base Toyota Avalon.

$3000 more than their own Azera which is supposed to be the upscale one of that platform. More expensive than a Genesis 3.8 sedan.

Only about a thousand less than a Lexus ES350 or base Acura TL. By the time you add the luxury and technology package, you are up in Cadillac XTS or heavy loaded LaCrosse territory.

I don't get it either.

Maybe they are expecting dealers to lop off $5000 immediately to give buyers the perception of "getting a good price".

Yea maybe…

I just think they should stay selling good passenger cars for the masses.

Its a Hyundai afterall. And the Hyundai counterpart isnt very competitive either.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was originally built for the South Korean market and they sell it here just because they have it. It's been available in South Korea since 2009. Doesn't cost them any extra in R&D.

It is a rebadged Hyundai Azera. All Kias are Hyundai designs, with Hyundai drivetrains. The Cadenza does not share the good fortune of using the new Hyundai 3.3L V6. It uses a 3.5L V6 that is a carry over from the 2010-2012 Hyundai Santa Fe.

These cars are designed to compete in the "near luxury" segment. Hyundai and Kia have offered cars in this segment since 2001 with the XG300 and Amanti.

Hyundai and Kia have abandoned their "budget" vehicle niche. Their offerings are very competitive in any segment they focus on. We as Americans are going to have to abandon our impressions of them as "throw-away" vehicles, otherwise we are going to miss out on some very good vehicles.

It uses a 3.3 litre V6

The last thing I read stated the 3.5, but I see that has changed. Oh well, that is good. The 3.5's have been having some throttle body problems.

Same thing with the Hyundai Equus.

The Genesis was a tough sell at first but is quite popular now.

$35,000 seems steep, but I havent seen the Cadenza in person, might be worth it. I did however, just see a new Kia Sorento listed at $38,000!!! I couldnt believe it. It did have leather, sunroof and alloy wheels, but my goodness. The kicker is the fact that in 8 years the car will probably be worth no more than $8000. I know Kias are pretty good cars, but the depreciation on them is what would keep me from buying them. I looked at a Forte and Corolla before I got my Accord. The Forte was inexpensive, rode well, and got good MPG, but I couldnt disregard the fact that when I went to sell it down the road, I wouldnt get jack back for it, so I passed.

Even if you abandon your "throw-away" vehicle perception of Kia, I'm still not convinced that it can compete vs. Acura and Lexus by undercutting the premium marques by a few hundred dollars.

By the time you add the luxury and technology package to the Cadenza, you have overshot the 3.7 FWD Lincoln MKS price. I'm not sure they can compete with Lincoln either

But really, the most troublesome aspect is that it is more expensive than a base Hyundai Genesis 3.8 sedan

As I understand, Kia was supposed to be to Hyundai as Plymouth once was to Chrysler. To me personally, paying more for a Cadenza than a Genesis is like paying more for a 318 Plymouth Satellite sedan than a 400 Chrysler New Yorker
