K&N, you can keep them. They fit like dung.

Exactly. The track is the only useful place for them.

I drive the GTO on the street way more than down the track......most muscle cars are street legal running KN filters that I know of.....and I just never hear of any filter related issues out of any of these guys....myself included...I wish the originator of this string would answer my questions so we can find out if he is putting the correct filter model in.....

A drop in K&N does nothing under 5000 RPM except let in a bit more dirt.
I did hear if you apply the K&N decal under the hood you get 5 more horse.

Makes as much sense as some of the backup data being offered here dont it!

I had one in my 740 Volvo Turbo for 5 years and saw no problems with the filter. The fit was tight and I never saw any dirt or dust in the intake hose or any of the piping to the throttle body.
Now, I did notice when my Turbo seized at 247K miles the front of the inlet turbine was covered with an oil laden dirt coating. After I replaced the Turbo I went back to a paper filter. Since I have never looked at the inlet Turbine since then I can't say the paper filter is any better at keeping it clean. Maybe this weekend I'll pull the hose and see what it looks like after 82K miles.

The filter is over a year old...and I know how to install it corectly. I even know enough to discern that it fits incorrectly.

You left a filter that did not fit in for over a year? Sure wish you would post the part number of that filter and the car data....

I have 2 K&N drop-in's that fit perfectly. I use them on a 2003 Honda Accord 2.3L and a 2006 Mazda 3S 5 Door.

I have used K&N air filters (cone style and drop-in style) on all my vehicles since I first got my license back in 1983. I have had no air filter related problems of any kind on any of my 9 vehicles and the 1,000,000+ miles they have traveled.

The guys that don't like K&N air filters are the guys that do UOA's at every 3rd oil change, and then absolutely freek out when there is a 3ppm increase in lead. Then they run around the garage screaming: "The lead is coming, the lead is coming."

Then they grab every tool they own and start taking a perfectly good engine apart to find what is "wrong".

Isn't the 03 Accord 2.4L? This was the new M/Y, wasn't it?

Jonny you're right! I had my 1 month old 2006 Mazda 3 on my brain, it's a 2.3l. The '03 Accord does have the 2.4l......That folks is why you can't believe everything you read on the web, sometimes people are just flat out wrong.

The fact that this is not a new filter leads me to wonder if the filter has shrunk. I had the old round style on my '89 GMC 350SB. I dried it in the sun after cleaning it. I latter found out this is a no-no because it will shrink the filter. Perhaps that's what happened.
