I have often thought about this. I'm no expert, but it seems a firearm is a weapon of choice because the perp does not intend to 'get away' with the act, it' s more an Act of revenge or Acting out ending with a suicide by cop.
Why are firearms used?
I see video games where there is a First person shooter (I have played them myself) but I have never seen a game where you plant a bomb and run away!
I guess it's more of a personal revenge act to use a firearm. Or empowerment?
Why not knives?
Probably inefficient and messy.
People don't want to get messy, even when they are going to die.
Again, I see no First person stabbing videos.
There are plenty of games where you can lob grenades
Call of Duty, Ghost Recon, Gears of War....etc.
There are even a few games where you can plant bombs and be terrorist (Counter Strike for example, which is/was EXTREMELY popular).
