Job site requires IE,how can I view it on my Mac?

Am trying to view the career page for the City of Arlington,Tx. It requires Internet Explorer to view it. Is there any way to get around that and view the site on my Mac (which of course uses Safari)? Here's the site:

What happens when you use Safari? Does it genuinely not work or does it just work fine? I've found many (dumb) sites that "require" IE work just fine on other browsers.

That being said, any company or prospective employer that requires the biggest piece of garbage browser does not deserve my business nor would I want to work there.

I would install a browser plugin that spoofs the User Agent String and set it to IE. I would bet money that whatever detection is implemented in their site does not probe any deeper than the User Agent String. My money would also be on there being absolutely no actual technical reason for this requirement so I'd think the site will work just fine without IE.

I have a macbook pro and the site and everything came up and works fine using Safari

Enjoy your 40+ year career. With that attitude you'll waste 20 of it before you realize when they are paying you to do work you use whatever they tell you to use.

I got a gov't job using "chromium" under ubuntu linux. If the job you're pursuing has such lousy IT that they won't let you in, imagine how it is once you get in there.

Also they likely have to have their site ADA compliant so browswers for the blind etc would have to work as well.

Works fine on Chrome browser? Can't you use that on your Mac?

You may want to actually just try continuing and ignoring the warning. I just tried the site, using Chrome (on my MBP) and it worked just fine.

If it is just a warning that you can ignore then it may just have been put there to limit the scope of their implied support for the various browsers out there.

Thanks for the Google Chrome suggestion. I'll give that a try. Are there any downsides to Google Chrome? I've heard good and bad about it. Sorry if all this sounds really amateurish,I'm not extremely computer literate.

None really and all current web developers use chrome and excellent development tools to create and develop websites so they work as expected. No one uses safari to develop anything nor really Microsoft browsers. They get tested (varies) on things like safari, Internet explorer and Firefox.

It's not amateurish at all. There are good suggestions here. Unfortunately, the type of situation you came across is not unique, nor clear cut. I've come across many sites over the years that said only IE, including job sites. I always ignored that, and just used Firefox, Mozilla, or Netscape, whatever the flavour was at the time I preferred. I did, however, come across at least one example over the years that absolutely did require IE. So, it's not outside the realm of possibility.

Can I have Google Chrome and Safari both on my Mac at the same time without causing any negative effects? I really like Safari and wouldn't want to cause any software "clash".

Opens just fine in Google Chrome.

Why not download the Mac version. That should solve your problems.
