I just am shocked that so few people take a few minutes to read the owner's manual on the second biggest investment they ever make. Outrageous!!!! But I call it something else. STUPIDITY, that's what it is plain and simple. I also agree that being "book smart" doesn't equate with having common sense and a degree of logic that one can apply to everyday life situations. I've been to University and I've seen plenty of University grads that are dumber than a box of rocks in everyday life terms. It's shocking to see these people which I consider barely functional out in the real world struggling to cope.
