I've got a plumbing problem

It works!

I took the valves off. Both were plugged with rust chunks.

Yes the pipes are rusting internally. But they do not look anything like the mostly plugged pipes in the pics. They have about 1/16 inch of rust around the outer edges. Not 90% plugged like in the pics .

At least not the ones You can see.

I flushed the lines out with the valves off. Basically had them off and had someone turn the water on. Got some yuck out as well as water that's been in there for many years.

It's working now. If it plugs up again soon then I know what's in my future.

Awesome! Tell the wife you've earned lots of brownie points. Like $12k worth, or whatever it was that plumber quoted.

Keep cleaning the faucet aerator as necessary.
What about that thing inside the faucet? I imagine that can get plugged up.

Edit: the cartridge. I'd rather have regular valves.

Since you were able to the old shut off valves off successfully, I'd recommend replacing them with 1/4 turn ball valve using Teflon tape. It will make future servicing and flushing easier for you.
