Yes, TALO is a distributor and Colt builds specific pistols for them.

I do love the idea of a Colt being my first 1911, for obvious reasons...but I didn't see a model with an Officer's frame and Commander slide length. ...

The Colt O9840WC Concealed Carry Officers is an Officers frame with a Commander length slide. (That is what a CCO is).

Thanks for clearing that up. I need to look and see what those go for.

^ Looks like it's about the same $ as the DW... Maybe a bit less.

I need to look and see if there's a review on it.

Wonder how the build quality/fit & finish compares to the DW CCO.

How is Colt's quality these days? Is this a "custom" pistol? Is it "hand-fitted" like the Dan Wesson?

I know Colt has had an issue or two in the last few years.

The Wiley Clapp models are production guns (not Custom Shop)

Well, now... you'll probably get me into an argument here, but here is my take.

Colts quality is excellent, particularly in the last few years.

That particular WC model is fairly new, but the WC Commander has been out for a good while and the WC Govt for a somewhat shorter while than the Commander, related to the quality, I'd say a review on any of those 3 is going to give you an idea.

If you measure quality by tightness, buy the DW, Colt does not build super tight guns.

If you measure quality by it working out of the box buy the Colt, I've never had a Colt fail to function out of the box, that includes a 3" 9mm.

I'd give a slight nod in parts quality to DW for no MIM, the Colt has 3 or 4 MIM parts but they are very good MIM.

Here is a good read on the DW CCO (unfortunately the pictures are MIA)

*The Definitive Guide to the Dan Wesson CCO*

Dan Wesson no longer uses Brown Safeties, they use "their own" which look suspiciously like EGW. The blending/fit on the rear edge has been a pretty consistant complaint.

I also think the DW CCO has a medium trigger.

While you are over there, check out Dave Severn's Shootout series (there are 3 I think).
