It's time I asked: who exactly is "Bob"?

I've looked around on this forum looking for answers but haven't found any. Can't search for "Bob" (search won't work with only 3 letters) and looked in the FAQ.

Was there a real Bob? Does he really exist, or is it some kind of saying like "Bob's your uncle"? Just wondering about the origin of this site's name. Apologies in advance if this has been posted before or somewhere else and I just didn't find it.

Thanks.

Thank god somebody finally asked!

I think what I meant to say was, "He is a real person."

As of about a year ago he was still alive. I haven't conversed with him for over a year.

I spoke with him on the phone a few times trying to clear up a squabble I had with someone here. One helluva level headed guy and always willing to listen to what you had to say. I respect him immensely.

That's a pretty cool name...

I always thought this guy was "Bob", but in fact believe it's "Ed".

While we are into the name thing, What is it with the 'M' guy that should not be named?

I remember him, his posts never really interested me. the few I did read (i have to say) he came over as a bit of a conceited jerk IMO

Perhaps someone can PM me if the subject REALLY is unmentionable.

The problem with that guy is he comes back with new user names. He has probably been banned at least 7 times under different user names. You can usually identify him by his arrogant posts and replies in posts and he likes to attack certain people here he dislikes. But sometimes he tries to conceal who he is.

We have had 2 other guys who kept coming back with new user names but both of them seem to be gone for good.

Bob was pretty cool and loved to experiment. When I first got on here, I was looking to see just how good the Mercruiser High Performance outdrive oil was in comparison to other brands...plus it was sooooo dang expensive, I was looking for a cheaper, but just as reliable, version. He showed me some experiments he did using gears and different oils. Was suprised to see how some of the brands I thought may work just as well, didn't.

Yup, I miss Bob on here- and his experiments too.
BTW- speaking of membership numbers:
Strictly by accident, I wound up as Member #2 for several years. In '02 I think, Bob had just set up this format we still use, and late one night I went to BITOG, found the new format, thought oh, this an improvement, & since the new format didn't recognize our old registration from the old one, registered. Turned out that at that moment it was only Bob & me registered so far, he must have just then gotten it up & running

My # held there for a few years , then it was shifted around some(I recall seeing it as #7), and for a few years now it's been #3. HOWEVER: I claim no special expertise at all, a membership # has nothing to do with that. Molakule? Yessir. Terry Dyson? Yessir. (though he's been gone from the board for several years now, miss him too). There are others. But special lubricant-related questions for me? No sir, I can only speak from personal limited experience, better go ask Molakule!
