I complaint about weird sizes all the time, but mostly of jug sizes. Imperial Oil and Wakefield have some fetish about using 4.4 litre jugs for their PCMOs up here, which makes basically no sense, not even corresponding to Imperial gallons, which used to be our unit of measure.

If you have a Dollar Tree near you they are starting to sell 1/2 quarts of sn gf4/5 motor oil with starburst logos 99cents each.

I think I've just been overthinking it then, thinking I need exactly the 5.5 qts and of the same brand and blend.

I have a 04 H6 Outback. It has 130k miles on it but doesn't consume any. I run 10w30 in it during the summer and 5w30 in the winter.

and if you call to ask which AZ has clearance oil, you can get top shelf oils that have certifications out the ying yang like HTO-06, Dexos 1 and the trendy "Euro step" ACEAs!!

Exceeds Ford WSS-M2C929-A, Ford WSS-M2C946-A,
Chrysler MS-6395, Honda HTO-06, GM 4718M and GM
6094M, ACEA A5/B5, A1/B1 and dexos1

(see sig for the example)

Unless you're getting some big discount on 10w30 relative to 5w30, why not run 5w30 (or even 0W-30) year round? That would eliminate half the issue.

There should be some individual quarts of 5w30 and 0w30 left at the AZ clearance sales as others have mentioned. I haven't seen any 10w30 on clearance at the AZ's I've visited the past few weeks.

If it takes 5.5 to top of full line on dipstick, 5 quarts should be just about in middle and work fine without the last .5 quart. I know it might be too much for the OCD folks to handle, but as long as it's between the low and full marks...

Dude, get an awesome rebate and buy an extra quart or simply find a set of PUP 5w30, you know those gray bottles, on clearance. I hit the mother load snaking 6 qt plastic bottles for 2.00 per quart on "extended black friday" CLEARANCE sale. Turns out, all they had was 6.

I am in the same boat so what I do is buy TWO of the 5qt jugs and that extra jug becomes my top off oil. It's cheaper in the long haul versus buying the single qt and I'm using the same oil for the entire engine fill.

Which has higher displacement and hp?
My guess is the lawn tractor

Assuming twice a year oil changes which is the common OIC on modern cars, that takes 5 years. If you do annual ones (which is possible with synth)... then.... yeah.

And if you had stocked up on Autozone $2 oil, then it wouldn't even be a problem. I hope they don't do it next year, got enough for a couple years at this point. But yeah, the car may eventually turn into an oil burner/leaker so you just buy the 5 quart jugs.

this..and remember, PYB is just like classic yellow mustard, you can always use it for topping off anything and it works!!

1st World problems.

I never sweated adding the odd partial quart from whatever other oil I had on hand. If it matched great, if not, never had a problem.

Welcome Kenny!!!

Because half the time I find a great deal on a 5 qt jug,

This is why I buy 2-3 jugs at a time. One for the big fill and one jug to be the make up for several OC's.

Thankfully the car I have now calls for 4qts. I can buy a 5qt and have an extra qt in case it has a minor leak (which it does right now, but will soon be fixed!) and be done. Without any loss between changes, it's going to take me YEARS to get back even with 1 year OICs I plan to do with Mobile 1 (might do 6 month, but we'll see), storing extra oil; but at least I can combine the leftover into a single 5qt jug. It only takes 4 oil changes before I end up with an extra 4qts for the next.

HE found an oil that makes his oil usage, even if it just topping off for a new "shot" of an additive pack, nil. Lasttime I did that, it was that classic holy moly in classic mustard yellow PYB conventional 10-30 and it opend up PANDORAS BOX in terms of being effectual and affectual in picking the next drink AND SWIG. Nil meanING non existent as in the OP is batting 1000! Good on you OP. I guess if you can go 10k OCIs and not even need to pump up your oil, you are truly in molecule heaven and Fluid dynamic nirvana. Consequently, you probably are upset over the odd 5.5 quart stuff, iono. That reminds me of my most recent but previous OCI (see sig). I could have sworn that Valvoline full syn 5w30 went 5-6k or maybe even 8k without losing any oil!! I am seeing how my current OCI (see sig) will compare(< @ 500 miles) in terms of usage but this PUP, I Am so stoked about it. Basically it is a UFC headliner fight between PUP and Val SynP + 1qt of that Classic Yellow Mustard PYB (pick your flavor b/w 5w-20 all the way up to the 10-30) that I utilized to pump up the volume of oil in my crankcase on a massive 10k++ OCI(see sig)!!
