I went to the Toyota dealer today and picked up 5 quarts of what I believe to be TGMO SN 0w20 Synthetic. Is this the good stuff that everyone likes on here? I used this and a Honda A02 filter.

What is the going price for this oil? My Toyota dealer has no idea what I'm talking about when I call....

A waste for 3k intervals. It's the good stuff though. Should be running it 7,500 miles in that engine.

And if your Toyota dealer doesn't know what your talking about try getting the part number from the pics.

I did a used oil analysis of Toyota 0w-20 and Mobil 1 0w-20 from my Honda hybrid (frequent idle stop). I found no difference in wear numbers, and so it makes me wonder if "toyota oil is better" might be myth.

Unless it can be proven, I'd call it a myth.

Really, that's how you judge an oil?
Why don't you also try a 15w40 or 20W-50 and test them, I'm sure the UOAs will be equally good.

TGMO 0W-20's main claim to fame is that it is very light on start-up, about 30% lighter than M1 0W-20 plus it's proven to be more shear stable. M1 0W-20 is a good oil but it is intended for 5W-20 applications.

Yeah thats like when I called my Honda dealer they didnt know what Honda Ultimate Synthetic 0w20 was, they said they had a good better and best oil and that the best was like $11 per quart!!! I said no thanks. This TGMO 0w20 cost me $6.00 per quart after tax, not bad if you ask me. And I dumped the PP because I wanted the lightest 0w20 for my extreme short trips this winter. I know you guys hate dumping oil early but it was worth it for me to have the added protection on start up. Im going to try and do a OLM run this time, need you guys to cheer me along lol. If this oil keeps the engine quiet over the full OCI I think I may have found a winner, oh and Im going to do a UOA on it once Im finished with it.

Greg... I think you'll be pleased with this stuff. Granted it's a bit cooler in NJ than FL but I noticed an almost immediate difference in the 06 Odyssey. Nice, quiet and smooth vs the M1 (which I thought was fine too)

Let us know when you switch and if you, too, can tell...?

Now if you REALLY want light, toss some MMO in there.... Kidding. Kidding...

Well its already in there, so far it seems about the same as the PP 0w20 that was in there, but the TGMO might allow it to turn over a hair quicker (might be placebo effect). I do like the fact that the add pack is better than PP.

Is that oil made by XOM for Toyota? The bottle (except for color) is identical to Mobil Super. Of course, I know that MS5K is conventional and this is synthetic.

Yes I believe ExxonMobil makes it.

There are hundreds of posts about TGMO 0w-20 and its attributes...a quick search will give you both its strengths and some warnings...the most critical being whether your Honda's oil consumption drops much between OCs...other concerns is whether your Honda is spec'd for 0w or 5w oil...
...if you've previously used conventional oil (and if it was 5w-xx oil) and wanted to switch to synthetic, I and most Toyo techs would have recommended going 1st using 5w synthetic before going to 0w weight.
Another point to be aware of....the 1st time using synthetic oil in an engine previously using conventional oil you may not see any improvement in oil consumption...but AFTER the 1st OCI, you may very well see improvement (as I have)...

Thanks for the heads up on consumption. Ive used synthetic since I got it almost 2 years ago, and just recently started to use 0w20 synthetics. Honda has back specked 0w20 for my car/engine. I can either use 5w20 or 0w20 in it, so I plan on running 0w20 year round. Im going to keep this TGMO in for a while and then hopefully do a UOA and see how it does in my engine. Then I will determine whether to stick with this or go back to PP 0w20.

Um..... yes. Shocking I know!..... but if the Toyota oil is not giving me better wear numbers than the Mobil 1 why spend $2 more/quart plus gasoline & time driving to the dealer? Just buy the equally-good M1 and save some cash/time
.
