Three leaves and a vine is no friend of mine. Some vines here are over two inches thick on the old trees. Pretty in the fall and the birds love the berries. :( Also will grow into a bush like growth if no trees around to climb.

Virginia creeper has 5 leaves though the new young leaves may only have three until they develop. it's edible. otherwise the vine and berries look identical.

recently got over a BAD case of it, one leg just itched but the other was swollen +afterwards severe knee pain which is finally almost gone!!

The serated edges on the leaves are one of the tells. Also, the vine can still get you in the winter. The vine will have little red hairs on it. Go get some roundup, and once it's dead pull it out while wearing long sleeves and gloves. Make sure to shower and scrub really well with soap within an hour. 30 minutes is better. Ask me how I know. o_O

No poison ivy in CA. We do have a lot of poison oak. Same rule of thumb (leaflets three.....) applies.

Wash with soap to remove the oils; don't use warm/hot water.

Pic 2 and 3 for sure.

Everything about the plant carries the urushiol oil including the roots. Don't burn it or the smoke will get in your lungs etc.

Urushiol is the same thing in poison oak and sumac.

Leaves of 3 let them be!

If you think you have been exposed, within a few hours of exposure before the oil has had a chance to bind, take some dawn concentrate a take about a half cup or and thoroughly work it onto the dry exposed area, then rinse well with cold water, repeat 2x.

I am regularly exposed to poison ivy and am extremely allergic (Got worse with each subsequent exposure)., but this method has eliminated the flare-ups, unless I forget to to scrub and rinse.

Also the leaves of 3 and each leaf needs to look like a mitten that is how you know.

I've been grubbing out poison ivy from my property for the past two years, plus I have many decades of suffering a rash from it.

First, the "leaves three, let it be" slogan is stupid. There are so many ground plants with three leaves that this saying is meaningless. Simply train yourself to recognize it from pictures until you have confidence with identification. It's the waxy texture and serration of the leaves that help identify the plant. In winter it's the perpendicular hairs growing from the vines on the trees that identify it.

Second, the urushiol is like like axle grease. A simple "wash your hands" or rinsing will not be enough. You must scrub the skin as you would after working on cars. I use a brush and pay special attention to the thin skin where I usually get infected, like forearm, ankles, and between the fingers.
