Hi - this is my first post and i just wanted to say this is a great forum!

I have been running the K&N oil filter for a few years now (HP 3002) on my Camaro and am now wondering what else there is out there that is comparable or better?

The K&N up here is $16-17 now so it's pretty pricey.

Any suggestions?

I have been running the GS Syntec, but will be trying PP this time around.

thanks

It would really depend on what you can get, I know it's very different than what I can here.

I haven't had the time to do stuff like river_rat, but I do cut all mine open and you can learn a bit. More about potential failure/saturated elements than filtering efficiency. In my opinion, you could get a PureOne/M1/Wix/Napa/CarQuest for a lot less and have a similarly well constructed filter. And if you see what he's done, you might consider that these other filters are cheaper, as well built and may filter better than a change should be easy to justify. Around here, the P1's can be had for five bucks... and shipped free from Amazon.com.

It depends on what you mean by "better".

More oil flow? - K&N is hard to beat.
Great filtration? - Amsoil EaO and PureONE
Overall OK? - WIX

These generalizations may not be 100% correct, hopefully somebody more knowledgeable can correct me.

No filter is going to alter your typical lifespan of ownership/utility/performance. That's not to say that one filter may be better at doing one (or more) thing(s) over another in your usage.

Were I a rational being, I would quit BITOG and buy the now recommended, cheap, little ST 3593A with its dome end bypass for my truck. Can it be worse than the Frams I ran for years with no problem?

That's the problem. Most of us are not rational beings. That's not to say that we don't rationalize our positions on some things.

I like Wix because they are pretty cheap and well constructed. I always had really rough starts when I used Mobil 1 (K&N) though as far as I could tell the ADBV worked (every time I removed the filter oil was still up in the pump). Maybe it was my imagination. I may try a Pure One filter next time or go wild and get a donaldson with synthetic media. Though that would be overkill.

You can even go overboard on overkill and still be in bounds as far as I'm concerned. This is BITOG. EXTREME FULL CONTACT LUBRICATION

napa gold/wix, Fram XtendedGuard would be my choice if I ever ran a synthetic. They are also priced decently.

and sadly I wasted the rare wix AcDelco filter on dino oil.
