Is the M1 extended Perf. true to go up to 15,000?

Ryan, for your app - any synthetic based filter will work great -that's M1, Bosch, SuperTech, PureOne, etc. You don't need a special filter to work with M1 (Mobil states this on their website). But I would use a filter with synthetic medium - because regular paper filters are sub-par in filtering ability.

Also, the M1 extended filter would be an excellent choice (best choice (Amsoil EaO notwithstanding)) - but Mobil also states on their web site that ANY filter can be used for the 15k run of M1 EP.

I wouldn't go for 15K miles on your first change without doing a UOA with TAN/TBN analysis.

Everyone's vehicle, driving conditions and environment is different.

Walking blindly into this OCI regiment with any oil might be asking for trouble!

Oil is cheap, engines are not!

It would be horrible if your engine didn't make the 15K run or damage was done because the oil wasn't up to the task. That's all I'm saying...

Ryan, I don't know anything about K&N's oil filter, but each of those other you mentioned are good choices - yes, even the ST at $3+. I think I can say the ST filter has a solid reputation on BITOG - synthetic medium and good construction.

Of those you mention, Amsoil is arguably the best filter on the market. M1 is also top shelf. And then Bosch and ST are solid performers.

(btw, I've used all the above filters. A few Amsoil, and many M1s, Bosch and STs - all for extended OCIs).

Stevie, I don't think oil failure (w/ an SM) is technically possible if the app is 15k of contiguous trips.

Make sure you have a good air filter (properly fitted - btw, air filter quality is as important as oil filter in this app) and a good oil filter (if in doubt, go with Amsoil or M1).

I say he can drop M1 EP in (if that gives him peace of mind), or YB - the results will be the same.

Do me a favour and test this for me and let me know how it goes.

Wouldn't catch me doing it without a UOA to gauge the situation.

Yes, in Mobil 1's own words - you can use "any filter" for the 15k (warrantied) OCI. Personally (for a full 15k OCI) I would probably narrow my choices to Amsoil, M1 and PureOne.

And I would install a new OEM air filter before the trip, and make sure it's in snug and tight. The air is your entry point for insoluables in the oil - good air filter is critical along w/ oil filter.

If you have a high-mileage engine I would run it to 15K with a Fram filter and you could have it replaced for free!

Here's a couple of other tidbits for your consideration (things I would do) -

Put 4oz of Marvels Mystery Oil in every tank of gas - this should give you better ring seal (it lubes the upper combustion rings) - therefore less combustion byproducts making it to your oil - thus less work for your oil (it also helps w/ more efficient combustion - thus less deposits on the rings and valves).

Or, if you have time - the following is better (imo) than MMO (above) - order a gallon of Neutra 131 from Schaeffers (see banner ad on BITOG). Run 12oz in every tank of gas - same benefit as MMO, but it will also clean deposits from the ring and valve areas - very good performing stuff (the original "Bob" of BITOG was a Neutra advocate, and a Toyota mechanic on BITOG has used it with outstanding results in cleaning carbon deposits). You could come back from this 15k with a much cleaner engine.

Just things to consider.

(MMO is known for being a good lubricant and for preventing deposits - but I don't think it has much of a reputation for cleaning deposits on rings and valves. Neutra can and will do it all.)

(both MMO and Neutra make claims of significant mpg increases - due to their cleaning the fuel injectors, better combustion and upper ring lube). (??)
