Is the 2010 Mercury Grand Marquis just as durable/reliable as the Ford Police interceptor?

I test drove one and I absolutely loved it. It's the most comfortable car I have ever driven. I am considering buying one. I hope it's just as reliable as its Police cousin.

The Grand Marquis has air ride rear suspension, a 2.73 rear end, less power, softer suspension springs/skinnier sway bars and different brakes. The Police Interceptor also has a power steering and engine oil cooler, as well as a heavier duty alternator.

Unless you use it like a cop car none of those things should deter you.

Agreed on the GM as a refined car - had one as a rental and loved it - better than the Buick Lesabre, plus you can get good deals on them - dont pay anywher near sticker - should get at least 5000- off! Get the uplevel vehicle with dual exhaust!

My girlfriend has a Grand Marquis. yes, it's as reliable as the police vehicle.....even more so since you will not be driving it like a cop (I hope not). The police models have a few differences but nothing that will effect reliability.
Be sure and take a look at low mileage used ones. You can pick up one for less than half the cost of new. In my opinion they are one of the very best cars out there, and a used one is a fantastic bargain if well taken care of. If you still want new though be sure and work hard to get a very reduced price from the dealer. You should be able to get one WELL below MSRP.

+1 on the Grandpa Marquis. It's a quality car that will last a long time and give good resale value.

I thought they had poor resale value since there are so many of them and they pretty much have remained unchanged except for the shell since the early 90s?

Your right. But I am talking about future resale value when a full size RWD sedan wiil no longer be available.

You can get most of the cop stuff if you order the sport suspension etc.

Only problem might be finding one on a dealer lot and getting all the incentives. But then it'll be medium hard to swap that stuff over from a junker. Brother in laws lincoln town car got reverted to spring suspension from air ride. All the stuff is bolt in as is the oil cooler etc.

03+ have a redesigned front suspension that helps handling out a lot.

1979-2002 is the same frame dressed in different bodies. 2003+ is the 1998 and up bodies on an upgraded chassis.

The joys of body on frame construction.

Personally I favour the 2008 over the '09/'10. These cars are ridiculously popular here, yet Ford somehow reckons they can get away with de-contenting these cars - Overhead console, Mercury Marauder rear spoiler that comes with the Export Handling Package, 9-spoke wheels, power adjustable pedals, traction control, power passenger seat...all gone for 2009 LS when they were all available on the 2008 LS. They'll probably do away with a lot more for 2010, considering the car's going out of production. Good luck to Ford in persuading people to ditch their Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis for a Five Hundred (Taurus II) in this market. GM's going to be having a ball with the Australian-built Caprice.

The Merc Grand Marquis is the last of the full frame, rear wheel drive American cars. I think 10' is the last year for them too, if you like it buy it! Basicly an Crown Vic with all the nice annemenities.

Thanks for the replies.

I went to several different Mercury dealers and they had a White one that I love very much. I can't think of any other car that is so comfortable on the highway. It was so comfortable and quiet, I almost fell asleep.

Wait a minute, I looked at the paper the guy gave me and it's a used 2008 model. What's the difference between the 2008 and 2010?

If it's an LS, the 2008 is less de-contented. Basically has more features - power passenger seat, overhead console, etc. If it's a GS model, there are no differences.

Sorry, but that's pure speculation.

In my opinion.....it IS the most comfortable car on the highway. Get a nice used one with low miles, change all the fluids out and replace with your favorite brands, detail inside and out, and you're good to go for 200k miles!
