If so how old and what area of the country?

I am referring to 92/93 octane gas. When I was growing up in NJ there was regular and high test. No mid grade. I am a little over 60 now.

I am just curious. I am more likely to say "high test" than "premium".

It is not in my vocabulary, and I am 54.
However, my father used the term all the time.

I use the term all the time. I'm 41. My dad said it all the time when I was growing up.

But he used it to describe anything that was the most powerful. Simple Green was high test soap. A strong drink was high test. Of course premium gas was too

Yeah I still use it from time to time. I am 41 and I am not much younger than you. One time when I remember using that saying was about a yr and half ago when a young lady with a 2014 Nissan Maxima 3.5 SE was having her car run real bad... she had been running 87 in it. Now, I bet it wasn't top tier 87 either. The 3.5s are really supposed to run on 93. So, I told her she needed to run high test. She was like, "what's that?". I told her what it was and informed her that she couldn't go cheap on gas in that car. Ohh, and this car was so new it had 30 day temporary tags on it.

I am 63 and never used the term.Though Chevron had the white pump which had a higher that premium octane.

I say, "low", "middle" or "high" to the fellas who pump gas.
They are usually jabbering endlessly to someone back in the old country via an earpiece and I don't want to interrupt them.

I used to use the Sunoco numbering system when I was younger.

Yes, 45 in Ga and that term was used at my 3 pump full service station as a kid. I think it was higher octane leaded gas, because regular was leaded and we had a unleaded pump too.

62 and I heard and used that term a lot in the 1960's and early 1970's. I had forgotten about it until this post came up. "Premium" has been in my jargon for the past 15 years.

Not part of my vocabulary, but I do use only Shell gas, makes my car run better all around. Eliminates the ignition timing ping too, which is important in engines these days as it wreaks havoc on the powder metal connecting rods.

Sure - worked at an Exxon station when I was a teenage oil changer - it hadn't been long going from Enco to Exxon - and that's all I have to say about my age

I am 69 and I filled up my 60's muscle car with good old high test. I still call premium that today.

"Premium" here. I worked at a Mobil station '73 to '81. They had "Regular" "Special" and "Premium" when I started. The Special was a low lead gas, this was just before Unleaded became mandatory. After the catalytic converters came in, the Special became Unleaded.

40 and always called it premium. Not sure what family members called it, as none of them bought the stuff to my knowledge.

Yes I heard that as a kid in the 70's but never used the term "High Test" in my vocabulary today. One thing that was used from a old guy at the local Exxon station was "white gas" used for lawn mowers/small engines.
