Downsizing from two ICE vehicles. After looking at a number of EVs including the Tesla Type 3, Leaf, Kia EV6 and the Hyundai IONIQ 5 I settled on the new Hundai IONIQ 6 SEL AWD. Most of our driving is around town so the 280 mile range with level 1 charging is more than adequate to meet our daily driving needs.

I have to admit, I’m a big fan of the IONIQ 5. I know nothing about the cars, but I love the looks/styling. Enjoy the 6!

This would be my choice too. Please post some pics when you can and Congrats!

Hyundai, from what I have seen, have made very solid hybrids for a decent/reasonable price. I'm sure Hyundai's EV's are also quite great in quality.

I just use the level 1 for our Model 3. Anytime I've had to use public charging was because my round trip was more than the car's range so level 2 wouldn't have saved from the stop. That said I drive a lot more than my wife because of my job and it's her daily, so I'm thinking once I go EV as well I'll likely invest in a level 2 solution for home. I've yet to have a situation where I had to public charge because I couldn't charge efficiently at home other than really long trips.

The only reason I would push you towards Tesla is the charging network. If that isn't a concern and you have fast non Tesla charging in the few spots you need there's really no drawbacks I can see with any of them. I'd like the EV6 GT, but there's one work trip I get occasionally that doesn't have the charging to support my needs along the way.

I have a respect for ICE h/k but would not buy one. The most uncertain part to me would be the ICE itself. But an EV? Yeah, I think that’s more in their wheelhouse. Korea has some strong advanced tech. and their chassis and driveability and interior execution is Great. I’m thinking this is a win, congrats!

Enjoy your new car! How will you charge? Do you have 240v in the garage?
So far with around town daily driving we have been able to get by with the OE level 1 charger set at 12 amps. Quotes to install a 220V outlet in my garage run about $1,000 plus the level 2 charger at between $400 and $700. I have nearby access to level 3 DC chargers so will defer installing a level 2 home charger.

Upgrades so far: 3M Scotchgard Pro paint protection, OE trunk reversible cargo mat, OE aluminum door sill plates, Motorola MA1 for wireless Android Auto connection, console storage tray, OE door striker plate covers.

Over the life of the car, fast charging will cost you about 10% or so battery capacity compared to Level 2. Whether this matters or not, is personal. I usually ask if you changed your oil regularly or "whenever you felt like it" when you owned ICE. That tends to separate people who care from those who don't, about things like long-term longevity.

I am preparing to install a Juice Box 40 in my garage. The material costs include $169 for 50 feet of 6/2 AWG wire, another $50 for the circuit breaker, outlet, box and cover, plus $599 for the charger. It's a 1-2 hour DIY project if you have the knowledge and skills to pull it off. Note that this is a 9.6 KW charger on a 50 AMP circuit; you can save a few $$$ by scaling back to 7.2 KW on a 40 AMP circiut.

There’s that but I think level 1 with occasional level 3 when more is needed in a pinch wouldn’t be much but I wouldn’t use public unless it’s necessary. We’ve done the same and used public charging only 3 times in 6-7 months that we’ve had the car. I’ll need level 2 if I go EV for my daily. I’ll likely do it before then because I don’t plan to buy another car for a few years and I haven’t decided if I’ll go EV for both cars by then. It just depends on how my options are by then of if I decide to keep my GTI even longer which is a possibility.
