Hi, I took the 1995 Dodge Colt (Mitsubishi Mirage) with 1.5l SOHC out of storage on the weekend. I charged the battery, cleaned the terminals, and then went to fire it up. Turn the key and nothing. Turn key again, and nothing. turn key again and it starts up fine. For the rest of the day it was fine. Next morning, same thing - turn key and nothing. Turn key again, and now it starts - I have a feeling I need to replace the (original) battery terminal clamps - but I am not sure because I cleaned them twice already and they look shiny ? what to do - thanks, Colonel Klink.

Does it crank at least? My first thing to mind would be the starter!! Try and checknthe starter! Before you get to start it at a new day hit the starter with something and then fire it up. If it does fire up its thebstarter but if it doesnt but after manybtimes of hitting it might still be the starter

Are you sure its a 95? I bought a 93 new,and it went one more year before being dropped. The 94 home grown Neon took its place in the lineup. The Mirage over at Mitsubishi ran until 2002.

Bad starter, bad relay,or bad connection down at the starter.

Watch your dome light when this happens to see how much it dims.

Could be a neutral safety switch or any number of things. Try it in Park or Neutral and try checking for carpeting under the clutch pedal.

If the dome goes all the way out you have battery cable issues.

If it does nothing at all you have wiring to the starter issues or a solenoid etc inside the starter.

It should dim some on a regular start.

Define nothing. If you have someone turn the key for you, do you hear a click on the starter solenoid? Perhaps the actual starter motor is getting stuck? We have this issue on the inlaws accord. The starter motor does nothing, not even click, but you hear some relay or solenoid on the starter engage. After a few tries it starts perfect.

How old is the battery? You mention charging it, but that doesn't mean much if it is weak or has other issues.

Good luck!

Had a 2002 Dodge Neon that ate relays on a regular basis. Luckily, the transmission relay, starter relay, fuel pump relay and AC relay were all the same. Used the AC as the spare when the others failed, which they did regularly.

1995 battery? Now don't hold me to this but you MAY need a new one.

Hi, the battery is charged up and o.k., it is a stick shift, so u depress the clutch while starting it. I don't hear any click at all when turning the key. the dome light burned out a long time ago, but i'll listen to hear if the blower motor is running while turning it - thanks, Colonel Klink.
