PureOnes are great filters. Are they worth paying double for? Eh, I don't know. I have two on hand for my Corolla. But I got those in sales. I also have an OEM Denso on hand for the Corolla, and it also shows good performance. I have a slew of $0.99 Advance Auto Purolators on hand for the Mopar vehicles. Would a PureOne be the "best filtration possible" for those vehicles? Maybe. Will using them make a difference over the life of the vehicle? Probably not.
You could probably argue that an Amsoil filter would be superior to a PureOne. At double or triple the price, will I buy it? No. You could argue that a PureOne is superior to a Classic. At nearly double the price, do I buy them? Rarely, and rarely still at full price.
Everyone's cost/benefit will be slightly different. And it's all good.
+1 Excellent points. I like the Pure One OF, but the ones I have now I got with one of those great AAP buy $25 get $10 off. So bought 4 P1's got $10 off, great deal on a fine filter.
I too also have a few AAP Total Grips left in my stash that were a great deal at $1.45. I'm running them for 4-5K/6m oci's. And 2 Classics bought with Havoline oil/filter promo and an AAP $10 coupon. Neither as efficient as the P1 but in the long run with regular oil changes, I doubt it will make any difference in how long the engine lasts. It will likely outlast the rest of the car, or my time with it. Both the AAP TG and Classic, like P1, have solid construction, IMO.
Using Amazon pricing with a straight oil filter purchase, I'd likely pay the small difference and get the P1 over the Classic. But, I'd have no qualms about using a Classic especially with an oil/filter combo promo.
