There is always travel by ship and train. Both of which can be excellent experiences if routes, time of year and vehicle are chosen well.

You guys crack me up...as I sit here waiting for my flight out of Orlando.
I fly often too. No issues. I have to say after spending 12 years on nuclear powered submarines and knowing old coots who spent time on the first nuke boats, you have a lot more than a scan at an airport to be worried about...unless of course you treat the TSA guy poor. Treat them right and they treat you right.
I am taking no car advice from anyone in this thread...

That is easier said than done...though, for the record, I have crossed the Atlantic several times by ship...both US Navy and Cunard lines...I prefer Cunard...better accommodations if somewhat more boring...

Not only are ships slow, but their schedules are very infrequent. There are multiple daily flights to/from Hawaii to numerous airports, but how many ships go there per month? A handful perhaps. Plus you'd have to drive to a port first
