Initial F-250 MPG

I'm insanely jealous. My 2002 4X4 F-150 super cab long bed with a ~350 lb cap gets at best 16 mpg on the highway. It's the 4.6 with the 5 speed manual transmission. Is that an exhaust temp gauge I see? Does it have an idiot oil pressure gauge or idiot light or can that be gotten through the info center? And if on the info center is it real oil pressure, I would think so, but you never know.

I hear you--my old FX4 was the same (14-17ish regularly with 18-19 possible on long trips as long as the speed was 70 or less). The temp gauges are coolant and transmission. I have yet to find an oil pressure reading of any kind--which seems to be an oversight if one does not exist, but I will install one if there is not one (still reading and learning about the PSD).

It is an 8K option, but the truck I bought had a 13K discount.

If you like to install an oil gauge, try the dual temp and pressure gauge. Oil temp is very importance to watch out for, especially when you tow heavy stub and climbing up hill(s) in summer, the oil temperature may excess the capability of the oil. If that's the case then an oil cooler may be needed.

Oil temp is there in the information system, just strange that so far I am not finding an oil pressure gauge.

That is really good mileage! I had a cold air intake and better exhaust on my 2004 GMC with the Duramax and after doing that, the best I ever got was 20mpg but I would get 19 consistently on the highway. I hope you enjoy your new truck and that it lasts a long time without trouble for you!

I just recently drove an F-550 Powerstroke. It also didn't have an oil pressure gauge. I thought maybe because it was missing because the truck was a lower trim level model. I guess not. I wonder if you could read oil pressure through an ODB2 bluetooth adapter and the Torque app on a smartphone?

So the diesel was free?? Doesn't every dealer claim a mark down from the sticker is a discount. Normally diesels run $5-$8K more than a gas engine.

I guess you could say that it was the same price as gas F-150 (because most of the 2015 F150s remaining were within $500-$1000 of this F250). For me, since I needed a truck that could handle more trailer, it was an easy decision since an F150 would not fit the bill and I already had one. The 2016 F-250s had a sticker price that was $1000-$1500 more than a comparatively equipped 2015, they were only discounted in the $3-$5K range and the 0% financing deal was not offered for them.

Yes; I have had two (but none on this trip--maybe on the trip home). They last for about 20-25 miles (which is 4 to 5x longer than previous models) and the MPG is in the 10-12 range, no matter what speed you drive. I will see what it does to the 21.1MPG that I currently have if one occurs on the return trip.

The MPG I posted is with DEF (but no active regens) and yes, to my knowledge, all diesels these days have DEF (except for those who choose to delete the EGR and DEF from the truck). Unless you mean how much DEF is used per mile? It is too soon to know that yet.

My early 2000's gasser with 4.10 rear axle gears gets 12 MPG all day long. A bit better than that when I am going down steep hills.

Yes, I am fairly certain that you can. I was reading in one of the diesel forums that a vast amount of data (especially about regens and exhaust gas temperatures) can be pulled that way. I will probably look into that soon.

I just filled up and hand calculated the mileage and the hand calculation came out to 20.09 and the odometer reading was 20.2, so it is pretty close. I am happy thus far.

Dang, that's some good mileage. That's about what I average in a 4.3 six banger gasser. My sis has a 2004 250 and it gets 11 mpg average, so diesel is the way to go. Good luck with the new truck! I really like the new Fords.
