Increased oil consumption with 0W-30?

Fellow 06 Civic Si owner here with ~14000 mi. After I changed the factory fill at 4300 mi I went with Mobil 1 5w30 for the next ~5000 mi. Had to add almost 0.75 quarts makeup during that time. Did not have any oil consumption during the factory fill which is odd because I dont remember driving any less hard for the first 4300 mi.

Then switched over to GC 0w30. Almost at 5000mi on it now and added same amount (0.75 qt) makeup. Car does seem quieter with GC than M1. In unscientific terms: less mechanical engine noise and just more "vroom vroom" during high rpm operation. Also noticed oil color with M1 was much darker than GC at 5000 mi. Could be filter related though b/c I used a Fram extended guard on the M1 and a Pureone on the GC run. Will do a Dyson analyis once my OLM says it's time for a change. I stocked up on GC so I hope UOA shows it's a winner.

Craig in Canada,
The PCV valve have never been changed. Just recently, I examined its operability by pinchng the PCV holes and listening to see if it clicks. The result is that it did click every time I pinched the holes, thus it is an indication that the PCV valve is working properly. Nevertheless, I will consider changing the valve.

ThirdeYe,
I'm a pretty conservative driver for the most part. I only VTECed about 15 times in 6 months and I do know this contributed to some oil consumption. I think mixing made the oil a little more volatile and, on top of that, Mobil 1 does not work well on my engine when it comes to oil consumption.

Televascular,
I do enjoy topping-off oil, but a litre per thousand kilometre is a bit excessive. I'm going back to conventional onced my stash of synthetics are depleted.
