Hey guys, the tire shop rotated my Altimax RT43's for the first time today @7000 miles. They followed the standard FWD pattern:

The tires are a little noisier now. Hoping it'll go away once they settle into their new positions. Is this because the 2 tires upfront are now spinning in a new direction compared to before?

its normal for tire rotation. Basically the tread blocks are worn then you flip them around and it sounds different

It is also from the front and back wearing tires differently.

I've had that problem once with my RT43's. It's one of the reasons why I do 5k rotations on my FWD cars.

I do that rotation pattern on my RWD vehicles and haven't ever noticed noise issues, but it would make sense that a tire rolling mostly in the opposition direction would now need time to shape up.

My first though exactly. I also have a little noise for about 3,000 miles after rotating.

It is not uncommon for the rear tires to develop a bit of irregular wear - and become noisy when they are rotated to the front. Give it a thousand miles, and if you aren't satisfied with the noise level, have the alignment looked at.

Pro Tip: The published alignment tolerances are too wide - by half. (That's the allowable deviation from the target value, NOT the target value itself.) When ever you get an alignment done, ask the alignment tech to make sure they get the alignment inside the inner half of the spec tolerance. If the tech won't agree to that, find another shop. Oh and ask for the printout!
