Only if you let it. I see all the bad things reported on the news and realize that society can get pretty messed up, and there are a lot of weird people doing some bad things out there. It gives you a peek into the kind of badness that goes on, and lets you know that you need to be careful about certain things. But don't let it drag you down.

You're not really thinking it through
You'd get bored doing the same things over and over as [censored] is repetition. And eventually you'd gladly end yourself.

P.S to all. Can't we talk about anything without it coming down to blaming those evil welfare recipients? Society has improved greatly. People have more rights. Black people don't have to sit in the back of the bus and people aren't gassed to death by the millions. But all that stuff is off topic.

Same things over and over? What sort of unimaginative idiot would do that? That's a big world out there, and things are changing everyday.

If I were an immortal who was born 100 years ago, I wouldn't have the opportunity to do most of the things I did 100 years ago. Most of it is gone.

I know it's real popular in fiction to portray immortals as bored and unimpressed, but the reality is, there's a lot of things to do out there, and lot of new things to see everyday.

Just think of all the goals there are to achieve in this world. Just think of all of the knowledge to gain and pass on.

I'd venture it would be impossible for a single immortal to ever keep up.

No, it's true........

Some of us do recognize vitriol when we see it.

It's interesting that you say that. People have been saying that the world was getting worse since the 19th century and way before that I'm sure. You had the civil war, WWI and then WWII. The latest wars aren't actually that bad compared to those.

And people have ben saying exactly the same thing you've said. But the fact is...our culture is quickly deteriorating. Morals change...but the basics are constant. We've become far more immoral. Same thing with ethics. Honesty....integrity...taking care of family. Responsibility. Accountability. Respect for your neighbor. Respect for marriage. Manners. Work ethics. Social etiquette. I could go on and cite examples...but I have a feeling that you, and many others, would be defending modern culture and have an opposite view....yet the further down the toilet our nation tumbles.

Hopefully you and grampi, can be put out to pasture in a nice, homophobic, white enclave.

Perhaps society will continue to evolve and these thoughts of yours will be more and more marginalized, much like the religions of the world. Divisive thoughts based on no facts at all, sure do have a way of riling people up against each other.

1 day before one of my kids would pass away...couldn't handle that...doesn't matter how old they are.

+1 Have been reading up about Aubrey de grey, I can mentally go on for as long as my body is able, there are so many things I want to experience in life, and I want to keep learning, not enough IMHO in my current lifetime. I wont ever get bored.

Our society isn't evolving, it's regressing...

When my grandfather was a boy, women were still thrown into insane asylums for being disobedient and had forced hysterectomies to "correct" their behavior. Fever was the #1 killer in the US, seconded by diarrhea. He went to war with men who fought to defeat an evil racist empire, only to watch them come home and receive pretty much the same treatment from the nation they defended. Their children went to war 30 years later, and came back to the same.

Being different was the same as being a criminal, and in many cases, actually was a crime. An employee had no right to anything. Employees who demanded better treatment were shot dead in the street for that reason alone. An honest man willing to put in a hard day's work likely lived in a tent in Central Park.

Very easy to forget that our society emerged from the Dark Ages less than 100 years ago.

Just about everything you posted is not true.

Is that really the best way to support your own set of beliefs.....to reinvent history or contort actual facts?

In general mankind gets more civilized and less savage as time progresses. There were no good ole days.

In general the more intelligent a person is the quicker they get bored with routine. If you lived 10,000 years your brain would be done.

Its all the repetitive tasks that'll get you. Getting up every morning, making coffee driving in to work, sitting in your cubicle all day doing garbage tasks....and on and on.

How about 100 million years. You think you're up for that?

I don't suppose you'll back that statement up with anything more than denial, will you?

If my wife is with me? Absolutely.

It's an area where we can only proceed with assumption. No sane person has ever faced life with the perspective of literally being immortal, so it's hard for me to say for certain.

I'd definitely give it a shot if given the opportunity.

Its going to be interesting the next 1k years will either see man become a space faring civilization or be destroyed/have our society greatly downgraded. The pace of change is speeding up rapidly.

AI is the real curve ball here, and that is coming soon.

I'd like to see what's going to happen in the next 200 years even. I've got to think AI is coming, but part of me hopes it won't in my kids lifetimes anyways...
Global warming, genetic engineering, and over population are other things I'd like to see how they play out.
There are some real scientists working on practically stopping aging and that might be solved in the next 100 years... Imagine that.
It would be interesting to see if there is other intelligent life in the universe as well. That might happen next week or 1,000,000 years from now.

You posted the exaggerations and falsehoods....you need to back up what you are saying.
I don't need to back up anything. Women who where disobedient toward husbands automatically received hysterectomies? Pure rubbish.
