IE8 -- Install now or wait?

I installed it tonight! I am actually using it now, it is very similar to IE 7 but I haven't really looked through a lot of the features yet. Seems stable for the 2 hours I have been using it.

Apparently even major sites like microsoft.com do not work all that well with it when it is left with it's default settings! It fails the Acid3 test miserably (my Firefox 3.x/ Mac browser scores 71/100, Opera scores 100/100, as does Epiphany on Linux), but passes Acid2; the first M$ browser to do so if I recall correctly.

From what I've heard so far, it is a great improvement over IE7, though, which was a quantum leap ahead of IE6.

I have also heard tell that is has leaped ahead of Firefox in some javascript rendering speed. Other than some nagging Micro$oft practices of refusing to comply with some standards, it seems like they're starting to get this right.

Installed it on Vista x64. I was hoping for the silky-smooth experience that Win 7 beta had with IE8, no luck.

Seems easy to use though, it imported Firefox bookmarks but it put them in alphabetical order rather than the order I like 'em.

Ah, then it follows Microsoft protocols:

First, the customer must adjust or adapt.

Second, the Microsoft way is always right!

Some billions of dollars later, they must be doing at least something "right"...

I'll try to avoid the firing of opinions on this one. I beta-tested it. It's an improvement over IE7, and seems to give Firefox a good run for its money.

Tried to download it this morning on Vista........it said "Internet Explorer 8 is not supported on this operating system".

I've been running IE beta 8 for several months and it's been great. It's my wife's choice browser and my second choice...I'm really fond of Opera!

I also have FF which I like better in Linux or on my old Win98 machine than on XP.

Just be careful, if you submit forms online. You might be shocked after a couple hours of filling it out and submitting one that it did not go through.

It seemed like the form went through, but it did not. I did not find this out for about 2 weeks. When I read the fine print I saw that IE8 was shown to not work for this site.

I got rid of it because it is not compatible with some websites for just that purpose.

Egads, blashpemy!

If you know anything about me, you know I have no fondness for Microsoft. If you really know me, though, you know that, much as I like open-source software and dislike proprietary programs, I'm a pragmatist. What I really like best in technology is what works best. That's why I put up with Apple's closed door policies and use an iPod, and why I now have to say that Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 is better than Firefox 3.0.7.

I think it was 8.5 Enterprise. I haven't tested 8.7i at work yet with IE8, but the last laptop I checked had IE8 on it, and for whatever reason IE wouldn't work. I dropped IE back down to 7, and it was fine.

I was finally able to DL and install IE8. The wife uses IE so I don't really notice too much difference, but I did noticed that Gmail.com didn't render correctly a couple of times.

Hopefully, IE8 will only make the competition better - like FF and Opera. I still use FF.
